Tasty News -- Oprah Admits: "I'm Fat Again"

She admits it herself. She's fat again. Oprah could have handled the questions about her weight gain like so many hot potatoes. Instead, she chose to face the issue head on. In fact, on the front cover of the January, 2009 issue of "O" magazine, Oprah asks, "How did I let this happen again?" It's no secret that Oprah has been up and down in her weight. In fact, she has fallen off the wagon and gotten back on so many times, she's installed an escalator. Or so I hear.

Oprah says that she feels like a fat cow after hitting the 200-pound mark. Although she was as cool as a cucumber when she announced this latest information on her battle of the bulge, it's obvious that she has egg on her face now. She has lost weight so often, but then she just keeps putting the weight right back on.

Oprah is certainly a big cheese in the entertainment world and beyond. If nothing else, there is no doubt that she brings home the bacon - $2.5 billion of it, to be exact. You would think that she could have at least hired chefs around the clock and a bevy of personal trainers. Staying on track with her weight then would have been a piece of cake. Let's face it - Oprah is all butterfingers. No matter what she does to prevent it, she keeps letting the ball drop on her weight control issues.

Maybe Oprah thought keeping weight off once you're down to your target weight would be as easy as pie. It's not. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Gaining back the weight you've already lost can happen as slow as molasses, but it can happen. Then before you know it, you're fat again.

Apparently, not being able to eat desserts, fried chicken, and rich sauces wasn't exactly Oprah's cup of tea, so she returned to her old habits, and the pounds slowly packed back on. It happens; that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Oprah says that she's mad at herself for putting back on the 40 pounds she lost a few years ago. She says, "Part of getting back on track is you have to accept where you are right now in order to move forward". For Oprah, there's no crying over spilled milk. She's ready to move on.

So instead of vowing to lose weight, this time Oprah says she just wants to be "strong, healthy, and fit". Trying to achieve that without watching your calories or working out is like trying to make an omelette without breaking any eggs. I may have to eat my words, but I fear Oprah is heading toward being a couch potato.

We will see. The proof is in the pudding. But here's some food for thought. Although "O" magazine isn't exactly Oprah's bread and butter, I think the January issue featuring Oprah's take on dieting will sell like hotcakes. That will just prove America still loves Oprah. Many Americans still think she's the best thing since sliced bread.
