Tastykakes & Lemonade: New Lemon-Filled Cakes Benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand
Pennsylvania-based Bakery Takes Stand for Childhood Cancer
Some companies are joining in Alex's fight against childhood cancer by offering lemon-flavored products, too. One of those companies is the Philadelphia-based Tasty Baking Company, better known as Tastykakes. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is headquartered in the Greater Philadelphia area, perhaps why the Tasty Baking Company decided to support the cause.
Tasty Baking Company, perhaps best known for its Butterscotch Krimpets and Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes has released a limited edition version of their famous spongy snack: a lemon jelly-filled Krimpet called Alex's Lemon Krimpets.
The limited edition Alex's Lemon Krimpets are available at most retailers that already stock Tastykake products. A family package, containing 12 individually wrapped double-packs of the Krimpets sells for $3.79, with 10-percent being donated by Tastykake to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
For folks out of range of the Tasty Baking Company, Alex's Lemon Krimpets (and all other Tastykake products) are available online. The Tastykake website suggests that those organizations hosting Alex's Lemonade Stand fundraisers order a case of the product to sell along with the lemonade.
This AC reporter purchased a box at the Mr. Z's market in Dallas, Pa. The back of the Alex's Lemon Krimpets box is dedicated to telling the story of Alexandra 'Alex' Scott and her lemonade stand endeavor to fight her disease, complete with a picture of the young girl. Although Scott passed away in 2004 at age eight, her family kept her idea and spirit alive by creating the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, which bottles and sells special lemonade, as well as encourages groups and individuals to set up their own lemonade stand fundraising events. Alex's Lemonade Stand rose over $10-million since its inception in 2000.
To further promote Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, the Tasty Baking Company has also included the address and phone number to the Foundation for those looking to make donations, or need more information. Each box of Alex's Lemon Krimpets also contains a small informational card about the cause, with details on how to host a lemonade stand event.
The Tasty Baking Company has been around since 1914, and offers over 100 products under the Tastykake brand name. As their catchy commercial jingle has been singing for years, "Nothing's as tasty as a tastykake."
Perhaps things taste just that much better when they are consumed for a good cause, like childhood cancer.
