Tastykate - an East Coast Phenomenon

The Origins of a Favorite Childhood Treat

JRS
If you've lived or visited places on the East Coast of the United States you've most likely come across ads, word of mouth, or even the Tastykake products themselves at some time in your travels.

When my family moved to the east coast it did not take long before I crossed paths with these delectable goodies!

Tastykake Quality
Developed by Philip J. Baur, a Pittsburgh baker and a Boston egg salesman, Herbert T. Morris in 1914,the two went into business intent on producing high quality baked goods. Insisting on only the finest and freshest ingredients, they combed the earth for farm fresh eggs, Grade A creamery butter, real milk, cocoa, spices, and natural flavoring, which they had delivered daily to their Philadelphia bakery. Perhaps this is why the Tasty Baking Company's products represent the industry benchmark for consistent taste, quality, and freshness.

The Tastykake Name
With the freshest and finest ingredients these cakes tasted so good that after sampling some, Herbert Morris' wife declared them "tasty." The word stuck and eventually, they named the business Tasty Baking Company and the catchy name, Tastykake.
