The Tata Nano is again on the headlines. This time, once again for winning the prestigious Bloomberg UTV- Autocar Car of the Year award. The Nano has already won the Indian Car of The Year (ICOTY) award recently.
The Bloomberg UTV- Autocar Awards 2010 were presented by HDFC Bank on January 15th 2010 in a glittering ceremony at the Taj Lands End, Mumbai and the ceremony had most of the industry top heads attending the show. The special guest for the function was Formula 1 racing champion Narain Karthikeyan while the chief guest of the function was Minister of State for Road, Transport & Highways Sri. R.P. N. Singh.
The Tata Nano has beaten twenty-one strong contenders by bagging the award. This accolade carries an authority and credibility only the Autocar brand can deliver.
The Maruti Suzuki Ritz won the Premium Hatchback Of The Year while the New Mercedes E-Class won the Best Luxury Car, the Toyota Fortuner was the Luxury SUV Of The Year.
The newly launched Chevrolet Cruze stole the Saloon Car Of The Year and the BMW Z4 is the Best Driver's Car. The Technology & Innovation Award went to the BMW 7 Series and the Green Award to Mercedes E-class Blue Efficient. The Fiat Grande Punto shone in Best Design & Styling. The Best Value For Money Car was awarded to the Tata Indigo Manza and Maruti Suzuki India became the Manufacturer Of The Year.
The awards jury consisted of India's leading Car Designer Dilip Chhabria, India's leading Automobile Historian Manwendra Singh, Hormazd Sorabjee (Editor, Autocar India) Shapur Kotwal (Deputy Editor, Autocar India) Renuka Kirpalani (Editor, Autocar Show), Rajeev Khanna (former Rally Driver) and Naren Kumar (6-times National Champion).
Speaking on the awards, Mr. MK Anand, CEO, Bloomberg UTV, said "The Autocar Awards honour unmatched excellence in the automobile industry. The awards are awarded after a meticulous selection procedure by some of the best names in the country."
