Tata Motors is to introduce its wonder car Nano in Africa within 18 months, ahead of the European launch. The car would be available for about the same price as it is in India. Tata Nano is available in three variants in the price range of Rs 1.23 Lakh to Rs 1.72 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in the country. Tata Nano is termed the world's cheapest car as it comes with a manufacturer price of Rs one lakh. It is also called a marvelous piece of innovation in reduction of costs for a viable car.

Speaking to reported about the African launch of the Tata Nano, the senior officials at Tata Africa, Mr. Sudeep Ray said "Tata Nano will be first made available in Nigeria over the next one year and half years." The launching of Nano would bring in great freedom in mobility to people there as Nigeria has very little public transport facility. Since the new car prices of Tata Nano are lower than the used cars prices there, it is expected to do a good show in India.

However, it is not known if Tata Nano would be assembled in Nigeria or it would be sold as completely built units. Tata Nano is said to be launched in Europe in the next two years, and many other countries later on. A Tata spokesperson from India said that "the company has said that Tata Nano could be launched in many more countries but the timelines, mode of marketing and the countries themselves are yet to be identified." The very first phase of Tata Nano would hit the roads this July. The car would prove to be a great alternative to several other small cars in Africa, which has one of the lowest incomes in the world. Incidentally, Tata Motors already has an established market in Africa, where several of its commercial vehicles are selling in good numbers.
