For now, Tata Nano is the only car it the ultra low cost segment. The journey of Tata Nano has been highly eventful from the day it was showcased at the 2008 Auto Expo. The production model of the car was launched on March 23, 2009. Currently, the car will be rolled out from Tata's Pantnagar facility, which has a capacity to manufacture 50,000 units annually.
Bookings for the first batch of Tata Nano were open from April 09, to April 25. In the first phase, Tata Motors will release one lakh cars over a period of a year to the customers. The key to the first customer will be handed over by Chairman of Tata Motors, Mr. Ratan Tata. It is not revealed as to who is the first customer. But it is assumed that he/she would be one among the hardworking middle class Indians.
Tata Nano is powered by a 623-cc rear engine that delivers 33 bhp of power and has a fuel economy of 23 km/l. Tata Motors has invested Rs 2000 Crore to build.
