Tata Releases 2,475 Units of Nano Car

The famed Tata Nano has finally begun hitting the roads. Tata Motors has delivered 2,475 units of small car Nano within 15 days after it was rolled out commercially. The car is termed as the world's cheapest car with the base variant costs starting from Rs 1 lakh (manufacturer prices). The cost of the car would go up to Rs 1,75,000 on the high end with air conditioning facility.

Mr. Ratan Tata, the chairman of Tata Motors and the person who envisioned Nano car five years ago had handed over the keys to the first Nano car on July 17, to a Mumbai resident.

Tata Motors in its annual reported has started that it will be able to deliver up to 60,000 Nano cars by July 2010. The one lakh units mark may be achieved once the production plant at Sanad, Gujarat becomes operational. It is to have a production capacity of 2.5 lakh units annually.

Tata Nano has attracted the attention of the automotive world after being classified as the world's cheapest. It was built to cater to the ultra low cost segment. It has no rivals to date and is unlikely to be challenged in the near future.
