Tattoo Hair Simulation: A New "Cure" for Male Pattern Baldness?

Ayanna Guyhto
These days, it seems that there are a million different ways to deal with male pattern baldness. But just when you think you've heard every one of them, a new one emerges. In the metro Atlanta area, a service called Hair Simulation has provided an interesting way to fill in some of their thinning areas, while creating an overall manicured look. Instead of hair plugs, the scalp is literally tattooed with simulated hair. For various reasons, this treatment seems to be geared towards the African American male. The service is headed by Cheryl Steinberg Rosenblum, a licensed Cosmetic Tattoo Artist in Georgia. And according to the website (hairsimulation.com) the procedure is good for those who have excessive scarring from other hair replacement procedures.

How does Hair Simulation Work?

At best, hair simulation is nothing more than "permanent make-up"-tattooing certain areas for cosmetic reasons. This has been an interesting aspect of the beauty industry. Things such as permanent eyeliner, beauty marks, lipstick, and other features have been regularly requested attributes. But now the concept has crossed gender lines, with men seeking out a remedy for concealing troubled areas on the scalp. In the introduction video, a barber is featured having the procedure done. The technicians work, and screen shots illustrate how his receding hairline has been literally "drawn in" realistically. In short, he will never have to worry about his receding hairline being visible. While the site doesn't necessarily claim to grow hair back, the barber in the video alleges that the procedures have enhanced his hair growth.

Additional Services

The services are primarily geared towards men. But the Hair Simulation clinic also offers procedures for women who are suffering hair loss due to braiding and weaving, or alopecia. Furthermore, the clinic (or salon?) offers four main services:

Hair follicle stimulation
Head shading
Hair stimulation
Head/ waffle scar camouflage

This cosmetic tattooing is said to appear very natural. The gallery of clients is certainly convincing. But as with any cosmetic procedure, seeing [in person] is believing. This is why a consultation is required before any services can be scheduled.

The Pros and Cons

The person who is a bit squeamish about having tattoos will probably not take to these procedures. For the most part, the results are "permanent"-though experts claim the dye will fade eventually.

As for pain of the tattooing itself, this completely depends upon an individual's personal threshold. But the general consensus amongst clients is that the service feels like a bunch of tiny pinpricks.

This may come as a surprise; but in certain instances you may also be required to shave a portion of the hair around the area to be cosmetically tattooed. For example, if you are merely trying to hide spots with hair loss, shaving a bit would help during the procedure. Those who are attempting to enhance their existing hair transplants would not need to shave the head.

If Hair Simulation seems a bit extreme, that's because it probably is. Choosing to permanently alter a part of your body (no matter the reason) will always be a bit scary. The question of how much damage you're attempting to cover will greatly affect your decision. Understand that unlike "normal" tattooing, you will need to return to the center for repeat sessions in order to complete the effect. There are also some precautions that you'll have to take after the service is over-like avoiding chemicals of any sort on the head for a few days. And you will only be able to rinse with cool water at first. These are probably obvious suggestions. But sometimes the simplest of procedures can have profoundly negative effects.

Well, BBB is for local yokals. They will also take anyone who pays their annual fee. They don't deal with international companies like the others are. BBB is a joke.

I have read all the posts and called all the place listed. Why Good Look Ink the only one the has a BBB rating? That is why I went to them.

Not 1 client has ever complained...I won't as it looks GREAT.

Call them if considering this process.

HIS Hair Clinic looks too fake. More marketing than skill. New Hair Company in London is great. Artistry concepts are also good.

I don't particularly like HIS hair because their work looks painted. Artistry concepts is good. I think its great procedure. I went with a friend to a medical facility in London where a woman called Moritz provide tattoos for hair loss and used to work as a makeup artist in the film industry. She specializes in medical conditions and does camouflage tattoos for scars and pigment losses for medical facilities. They also do tattoo makeup for women. The tattoo basically looks like a buzz cut. My friend looked awesome! I'm scheduled in October to do mine. The clinic was very discreet place, no screaming marketing, no hoopla. Just word-of-mouth recommendations. Hard to get an appointment especially in summer season. He was referred to her by his doctor since he was not a candidate for a hair transplant.

Good Look Ink stole photos and website material from an established provider. They are frauds. Headstyl and Artistry Concepts are the only ones that are the pioneers in this, the rest are just copying.

This thread has been brought to my attention and while I have a thousand better things I should be doing I simply cannot allow representatives of competetive companies to smear our good name in these forums and blogs.
Anthony Simms, an authority who despite "much reading" managed not to come across Artistry Concepts. Almost bizarre since they aggressively market themselves on forums like these. The strange claim that there is well documented evidence in forums (surely an oxymoron) to say that we "ripped off" photographs from a rival is equally offensive and one that I invite him to make for real, so that we can sue. For the record we only use pictures of our own clients and indeed have moved away from the deeply mistrusted photograph and now post video to our website.
There are two Directors of HeadStyl. Neither are called Harry. I am one and the other is Justin. We very ocassionally contribute to blogs and always in our own name. That said, we have a number of clients, partic

The US company Artistry Concepts has developed their procedure. Not the same as HIS not Headstyl and not connected with either one. I did much research on these three companies and I chose Artistry Concepts and I went there from Australia. They were the most up front with thier info. See for yourself: www.artistryconceptshairreplication.com

I have it on good authority that the company that developed this technique are HIS Hair Clinic in the UK. You can find them at www.hishairclinic.com . After much reading on the subject, it would appear that a company called Headstyl ripped off their before and after photos, and claimed them as their own. This is well documented in various forums across the internet.

I cant comment about Artistry Concepts, all I know about them is that theyre US based. They may have developed their own technique, or perhaps they ripped off HIS Hair Clinic too...... who knows.

Harry Heads Up is the Director for HeadStyle, Histyle or HIStudio whatever you are calling yourselves....He's blowing his own horn here. I have seen you and your cronnies on many forums under the names of Madman, Beenthere, and of course Harry Headsup. Us regular forum people know you guys already....
