Tax Day Tea Party: Not Just About Anti-Obama

Nicolette Hegrat
On April 15, 2009, tens of thousands rallied across the country protesting against the government's overspending. There were people who criticized this day as being anti-Obama and his administration. While that was one of the major keypoints in this nationwide rally, it was not the only one. What fueled me to go was to exercise my right as an American and voicing out on overspending. This money is being given to big businesses arriving in Washington, D.C. in private jets asking for a handout. It's being given to big businesses deciding to travel to resorts on our hard-earned money.

After this stimulus bill was passed, it was a wake-up call to all Americans that this new administration STILL decides to overspend when they haven't learned a lesson from Bush. All this bill is doing is handing out more of OUR money and giving it to the states. What are they going to do with it? Of course the Republican states aren't going to reject this money. They're just as guilty, too.

It's all about greed and I'm sick of it. I'm sick of worrying about finding a job and thinking when I do find that next job, will it be stable. I'm sick of worrying about my child's future and if there will be any money left for her because I sure as heck know that there won't be any money left for me when social security rolls around.

If you were at one of these "tea parties", you would've seen people of all races, generations and political affiliations (yes there were liberals). It affects us all! What is dangerous about this overspending is we're handing out money that may eventually run out. You can't predict what will happen in the economy and no scholar can guarantee you a country's economy will prevail through a bailout.

On the Tax Day Tea Party's website, there is a behind-the-scenes look at a CNN reporter who faced protesters. This wasn't posted on CNN for obvious reasons. It needs to be seen. The female protester explains to her that it's not about Republicans and Democrats, but ALL OF THEM IN CONGRESS. The government is stealing our money. If you don't want to fight for your rights, get used to it.
