Tax Filing: TurboTax Deluxe Edition Tax Software

Kathi Downs
I always hated tax time before I started using TurboTax Deluxe Edition. Throughout the year, I felt I kept excellent records; but having to sit down with forms, pencil, paper and calculator, put each figure in its right place, and calculate without mistake, was something I absolutely hated doing. To add to this frustration, I needed to be undisturbed for at least a couple of hours; which never happened with three boys in the house.

Every year my husband would tell me to just take them to a tax preparer, but I was too tight to spend that much money. Then, a few years ago, a good friend introduced me to the TurboTax Deluxe Edition. I've not used anything else since.

TurboTax Deluxe Edition is a product of Intuit; and Intuit products have definitely stood the test of time. Intuit has produced home finance and tax software for years, and people and businesses are still buying it; so that should be testimony in itself.

Intuit's TurboTax Deluxe Edition is fast, and it's so easy to use. After the software is downloaded into your computer, it is then a matter of answering a few questions and doing some data entry. As you go along with your entry, you will notice in the top corner, where you stand financially; either plus or minus dollars.

A good way of determining if you need TurboTax Deluxe, versus TurboTax basic is first, if you have to file state taxes. If so you will need TurboTax Deluxe. It comes with the forms you need for your state, and the information that you entered for your federal taxes will just transfer over into state. Next, do you itemize your deductions? If so, you will need TurboTax Deluxe. Do you own your own home? Did you donate to charity? Do you have large, or significant educational or medical expenses? Or do you have childcare and disabled care expenses? If you answer yes to any of these questions, then TurboTax Deluxe Edition is the software you will need for doing your taxes the easy way.

One point of 'ease of use' that is often overlooked when using TurboTax Deluxe. If you use other Intuit products, specifically QuickBooks, you can simply transfer/import your information from QuickBooks directly into TurboTax Deluxe, and a large part of your job is done.

TurboTax Deluxe Edition can be bought at almost any store that sells computer software; such as Walmart or office supply stores. The cost at these stores runs about $70, but if you go online to http://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/deluxe.jsp the cost is $59.95, so it's considerably cheaper. This site will also introduce you to other TurboTax software, and there is also a place where you can compare TurboTax Deluxe Edition with other tax software.

If you're look for an easier and quicker way of doing your taxes, and you have deductions; then TurboTax Deluxe Edition is the way to go.

  • TurboTax Deluxe Edition is easy to use
  • It is easy to find and buy
  • The cost of TurboTax Deluxe is a lot cheaper than paying someone else to do your taxes.
If you use QuickBooks to keep track of your personal finances throughout the year, you can just import your records over to TurboTax, and half your tax work is done for you.

This article is completely useless. It says if you itemize, you MUST use Turbotax Deluxe. Why? I've used Turbotax Basic for years with itemized deductions and investments to deal with. In my experience, Turbotax Basic does EVERYTHING the deluxe and premier versions do, except state taxes, but just don't offer as much handholding. I'm looking for REAL articles that help me tell whether that is true, not parroting off the back of the box that says I need Deluxe just because Intuit says so, so they can make more money. Give me real information, not unsupported sales hype.
