Taxi Services in the United States and Abroad Go Green for Savings
From Hybrids to Alternative Fuel, Taxi Services Are Going All Out
Here in the United States, there are taxi services in many of the most congested cities which include Chicago, Los Angeles and New York (source: greencar.com). And why not? In such congested areas, taxis tend to sit in traffic for longer periods of time as opposes to cities where the traffic flows smoother. Because many hybrids get better gas mileage in city driving than they do with highway driving this only makes sense that the trend would lean towards hybrid technologies.
Oversees in places like Australia where there is an overabundance of propane being produced, there is an ever growing push for taxi services to use vehicles that run off of the natural gas. Perhaps that is why a visit to the country will have you seeing a fleet of taxis that transport visitors to and from the airport that runs strictly on propane (source: greencar.com). Other countries are following suit.
In places like Tokyo, Rome and London a whole host of different hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles can be found (source: greencar.com). It seems only a matter of time before these green technology taxis become the standard and not the exception to the rule.
Not only is the use of green technologies good for the bottom line of these companies, but it is also good for the environment. Though the environment may not be the motivating factor for these companies going green, it sure is a nice side effect. With all the miles being put on taxis each and every year, the fact that many taxi services both here and abroad are going green is a welcomed site. Not only will these companies be saving themselves some money, but they will be helping to save the world as well.
