Taylor Hicks Deserved His Win on American Idol

Almost Five Years Later that Statement Still Stands True

Cindy Wright
Taylor Hicks deserved his win on American Idol. It has been almost 5 years since Taylor Hicks won season five of American Idol. There are still critics out there to this day stating that Hicks did not deserve to win. The fact is the millions of fans who voted for Hicks knew he was the one that they saw who had everything it took to be their American Idol, from his voice, too his ability to play musical instruments, his true love of music and his drive to succeed plus add to this his humble personality. All this was combined to create a great package that propelled the viewers to vote every week and ensure Hicks won.

Another point to remember is that what is extremely popular today, many times diminishes in popularity quickly. They key to success in the entertainment business is to establish a brand that takes you far into the future and keeps you around for a long time. Hicks did a stint on Broadway as Teen Angel in June of 2008. Taylor Hicks was so popular and brought in so much money for the show that they added him to the national tour of Grease. The tour was also very popular and having Hicks in the show brought in lots of money for Grease. Taylor Hicks has appeared on several talk shows and Don't Forget The Lyrics, he will also appear on an upcoming Celebrity Ghost Stories show and Hicks has mentioned looking at some TV and Movie Scripts. He is establishing his brand.

Even though Hicks has not had the radio success and may have not sold as many albums as some other Idols, he deserved to win because he was the most memorable and he is an around great entertainer. Hicks took the audience on a visual ride when ever he performed and he knew exactly how to get the audience on his side, he was much better at this than all the other contestants, he also knew what kind of performer he would be and what kind of music he wanted to make. He was not willing to compromise his vision just to get the judges on his side or since just to propel to the top of the charts.

Many people chart success by how many albums sold, however if that is the case then there are still many artists out there that are considered successful but they have not sold the amount of albums that Hicks has. His first debut album titled Taylor Hicks went platinum; there are millions of artists out there who would love to go platinum.

Instead of comparing Hicks to other Idols such as Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, who are exceptions to the norm for American Idol, compare him to the actual recording/entertainment business in general. In that regards you will see Taylor Hicks is doing quite well.

Indeed, while he has not sold the most American Idol records, He deserved to win because he was the most memorable, talented and versatile entertainer, he garnered the support and the votes to win, he did what it took to win the show and he deserved the #1 spot.

You will see much more from Taylor Hicks in the future and he will be around for the long haul not a just a quick couple years of successful album sales. Slow and steady wins the race and Taylor Hicks will be in it for a long time.

Great Article. It bothers me when people say Taylor did not deserve to win but they have no facts or incorrect facts. I read a piece recently where the writer said Taylor has done nothing since his win. You can tell when someone does no research before they write. Taylor Hicks has been so busy after the win he has hardly had any down time. Plus like Truth said he handles it himself and he profits much more than others owned by some company.

This article needs a rewrite. Check your spelling, grammar and punctuation in the future.

What a great performer he is! Like Kelly & Carrie, this guy should have gone into country from the beginning. In country, there would be more fans available who would be more inclined to listen to and purchase his music.

Truthful article. Mr. Hicks will be around as a major star when some of the popular sensations of today are long gone. Kris Allen has never sold the amount of debut records that Hicks has but for some reason has never received the negative press Taylor did. Go figure. He's a great guy, a great performer.

Thanks Cindy for the TRUTH. Taylor Hicks will be around many years to come. Lots of people can sing but not many can feel the music the way Taylor does. Music should come from the soul and not just sung. When I listen to music I want it feel the emotions from the song. That is what Taylor does when he sings. Thanks again for a great article.

That article hit the nail on the head! Taylor is the total package. Not only can he sing, but he has a great personality to match. He is friendly humble to all his fans and will be around as long as he wants to be because of that!

If the radio had given Taylor air time and the Idol machine had given him the support he deserved he would have had better sales. But who cares really? His true fans get to see him in intimate venues and are tickled to DEATH!

Amen, sister! Taylor Hicks is showing his value and versality in all aspects of the bizness - not putting all his eggs in one basket. The fact that he owns his own label, brand and musical masters and publishing rights has proven him to be a smart businessman as well. The bigger piece of the pie you own, the better off you are.
