I would have never thought that I would watch a television show, discover a talent and become so interested in seeing him succeed that I would follow his career to such a degree, that I would crave to learn everything I can about the entertainment industry.
Becoming a fan of Taylor Hicks introduced me to new dreams and those dreams are to someday be a publicist or music promoter.
I was lucky enough to get to interview him in 2006 and that was a great thrill for me at the time. Since then I have gotten the chance to interview many other musicians, and work with their publicists to set up the interviews, and get the information I need to come up with good interviews or articles.
Though I truly enjoy the being the interviewer, I know there is something else out there I can be much better at. I started looking into what a publicist does. I know that, that is where my true desire for a career is. I want to be someone that artists go to get their brand out to the media and the public.
I have unsuccessfully applied for several jobs in the field of entertainment publicity. While I know the basics of promoting someone, I do not have the education to know all the ins and outs, the laws, nor how to write press releases and so much more in regard to the entertainment industry. By getting my degree in Journalism and Mass communications, it will be another step closer towards becoming a publicist.
I spend several hours each week doing what I can to promote artists I admire and help them to get more notice in this great big world. I work at using social media sites to alert people to artists they might not know about or know incorrect information about.
I write articles and let people know what is going with artists and what they have been up to. I discovered a great new social media site a few months ago, the site is Fantourage.com and I use it to promote artists. Along with Taylor Hicks fans we have gotten Taylor Hicks to the #1 top celebrity spot on the site and Casey James is top 3. I try to reach as many people as I can but it isn't enough.
In addition, to wanting a career as a publicist my ultimate dream is to start my own publicity company. I want to find independent artists that have amazing talent and are not getting the recognition they deserve. I want to be the one that brings them to the attention of the media and the public. I want to help them succeed in following their dreams, and for them to know they have someone on their side. I want them to be confident that someone is with them to see that all their dreams are given the full attention that they deserve, to see that their dreams become reality. But I need the training to see my dream become reality. After four years of following this industry it has become very important to me to see that I make this happen.
You cannot just sit back and hope your dreams come true you have to make them come true. Now I am starting college to fulfill my dreams. I have taken the first step in making my dream a reality. I have started college; the degree I am going for is a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications. This degree will help me improve my writing skills and enable me to get the skills I need to become a publicist. My electives will be in the PR and Marketing field.
The reason I credit Taylor Hicks to introducing me to new dreams is because before I discovered him, I never even thought about the entertainment industry. I don't know what is so unique about Taylor Hicks that has caused me to become so interested in following all aspects of promoting musicians. All I know is I was not interested in any of that until I started following the ins and outs of promoting an artist. Part of it is because I want to see him and others I admire succeed.
I want to do my part in making that happen. However, it is more than just wanting to see Hicks succeed. It has become a burning desire in me to help artists get their music out to the masses. There are so many talented musicians out there and we never get to discover their unique sound and enjoy what they have to offer.
I would have never even considered being able to interview a musician. Thanks to Associated Content I was able to interview Taylor Hicks back in 2006. I enjoyed it so much that I have contacted several other musicians and interviewed them. Some of these artists like Taylor Hicks and Bucky Covington I have interviewed more than once.
I have taught myself how to utilize social media sites to promote artists and I use Associated Content to do the same thing. But there is so much more I need to learn. I am very excited to start this new venture in my life and get closer to fulfilling my dream. I am very happy that being a fan of Taylor Hicks introduced me to new dreams and I can not wait to see what the future brings.
