Taylor Hicks Performs in Kansas City

Hicks Hits the Jackpot at the Ameristar Casino!

Amy Gayle
To start my mini-mommy "Tay-cation", we decided to road trip it to Kansas City, Missouri to see Taylor Hicks perform two nights in a row at the Ameristar Casino.

We arrived in Kansas City only 45 minutes before the show started, so we arrived at the concert about 15 minutes late. We figured that he would have an opening act, but we were so wrong. When we heard Taylor's sweet voiced rising from the doors of the theater, we started running and so upset we were missing the beginning.

When we got inside, you could totally tell that Taylor was "on" that night. We had heard the night before he was sick with bronchitis, but he showed no signs of being sick in the least. Taylor was all over the stage and full of energy! Again, for my third concert in a month, he was a totally different performer! Never had I seen Taylor give an audience attention like he did here. I had only seen him smack hands with the crowd once before, but tonight, he was running up and down the stage smacking people's hands and taking flowers and gifts from the audience. It is amazing to me how he is a totally different performer at each and every venue. Everyone gets a different Taylor. I love that about him. We couldn't believe how different he seemed to perform for this crowd. He performed songs I had never heard before, so that was a great treat for us.

After only an hour, Taylor announced he was finishing up the show. I couldn't believe it was over so quickly. He closed, as always, with "The Runaround" and ran around crazy-like smacking hands and having a great time. He left the stage, and as always, the crowd screamed for more.

Suddenly, the stage manager brought out a stool and expecting the band to come back on stage as they always do, we were wrong. Taylor walked out alone with his guitar and sang "The Fall". It was an incredible treat and a beautiful moment for us fans. After he finished with that, the band came back and they did one more number for us.

The concert was short and sweet. I found out later that casinos are very limited on the time they allow for performers, so I was very disappointed by that.

Later that evening, we went into a diner for a late night munch, and there sat Taylor with some of his crew. We left him alone, as you should. He donned a green baseball cap covering up his gray locks. It's how he goes incognito. It was just nice to see him outside of his "performer" and see him laughing and having a good time with friends.

Again, Taylor never ceases to amaze me with his performances. I will see him again for his final night in Kansas City on the 27th, that is my last concert. Life will never be the same again after this "Tay-cation".
