Taylor Hicks Prepares to Go The Distance

Taylor Hicks is preparing to go the distance. He has said in interviews before, "he is running a marathon not a sprint." Hicks has stated that it is the longevity aspect that is most important to him. Topping the charts and selling millions of albums I am sure is something Hicks would not complain about. But CD sells are not the only deciding factor about a happy, talented, profitable and fulfilled music career.

Hicks's first post-idol debut self-titled album was certified platinum and the official sales count so far is 804,000 sold. That is not a failure. Many artists wish they had those sales. Without much radio play it makes the sales an even bigger accomplishment.

Hicks is now starring in the National Tour of Grease as Teen Angel, after a summer stint on Broadway in the role. During his stay on Broadway "Grease" vaulted right over the critics to box office glory. It played to sold-out houses and grossed nearly $800,000 a week. New York Post reported that Hicks was worth at least $150,000 in extra ticket sales a week. That proves Hicks can pull in a huge audience even in a small part with one song. Hicks does come back out during the curtain call to sing and play some more harmonica. Broadway named Taylor Hicks "Rookie of the Year".

Hicks is preparing to release his sophomore album titled "The Distance". The title gives another glimpse into Hicks' mindset to be around for the long haul not just a fly by night hit maker. The album comes out March 10th 2009.

Hicks first single is available for download January 20th at iTunes, Amazon and other music sites. There will also be a video released which was not done with his debut album. The video is being directed by Jake Davis.

Hicks has co-written most of the material on the upcoming album and has very, talented musicians working with him. The album was produced by Simon Climie (Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Faith Hill). The musicians working on the album also have connections to Eric Clapton and McCartney. Nathan East who is Eric Clapton's bass player plays on the album along with, Abe Laborial Jr who played with McCartney among others. These musicians do not "need" to work with Hicks, so one can assume this was a partnership they wanted and music they believe in.

Hicks has also went Indie with his own lable "Modern Whomp Records" and is working with Artist2Market and My Rocket Science.

So as Hicks prepares to go the distance, fans are anxiously awaiting purchasing the much anticipated CD "The Distance".
