Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal Break Up: But Why?

Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal have become the first big breakup of 2011. But why would Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal put such a swift end to the cutest couple in Hollywood?

According to People, there's been no reason given for the break up, but Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal apparently weren't together for the beginning of 2011. The 21-year-old country crooner celebrated in Nashville, while 30-year-old Jake Gyllenhaal rang in the New Year in New York. So could their celebration locations offer clues to why they split?

Taylor Swift showed her country roots by celebrating the New Year in a town that's definitely the heart of country music in America. So it seems that her choice of where to start her fresh start is a testament to her more conservative, down-home values (she's definitely not into over-the-top performances like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, or even Miley Cyrus). On the other hand, Jake Gyllenhaal spent his New Year in New York, which could almost be considered the exact opposite of Nashville. On January 2nd, the "Brokeback Mountain" star attended the closing party for the Broadway musical "Fela!" a show about legendary Afrobeat musician and political activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti. So it seems that Jake Gyellnhaal and Taylor Swift might just be from two much too different worlds to be involved in a long-term relationship. She's more of a simple, girl-next-door type, while Jake Gyllenhaal and his family seem to be more into the provocative side of performing. Then there's also the possibility that their age difference brought about the end of their relationship.

But don't feel too bad for them after the breakup. Taylor Swift is going to be on tour all throughout 2011 with the Christian pop band Needtobreathe, and you can bet there are plenty of cute guys in the band that share her values (and she wouldn't have chosen Needtobreathe for her opening act if she wasn't a fan of the guys and their music). And of course there's no shortage of leading ladies for Jake Gyllenhaal to choose from (he and "Love and Other Drugs" costar Anne Hathaway would certainly make a cute real-life couple).

So while it's sad to see Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal become the first big Hollywood couple of 2011 with the heartbreaking news of a break up, it's going to make it fun to speculate who they'll rebound with as the year goes on.
