Taylor Swift: Is She Mocking Actress Camilla Belle in "Better Than Revenge" on "Speak Now"

Julia Bodeeb
Taylor Swift's upcoming album, "Speak Now" certainly has a lot of vindictive phrases on it. Taylor has something to say about men who have broken her heart, a woman who supposedly went after her man and anyone else who has annoyed her in recent years. She seems to make digs at Kanye West, John Mayer and also Camilla Belle in the album "Speak Now." Is Taylor Swift getting too old for the vengeful lass role or is this just a young woman singing about what pains her?

Taylor Swift: Better than Revenge

One of her new songs makes it seem Taylor is fond of revenge. Is her song itself "Better than Revenge" an act of revenge toward an unnamed actress? Is Taylor showing some strong animosity toward actress Camilla Belle? Someone is shouted out for stealing a man from Taylor. Did Camilla cause love angst for Taylor by interacting with Joe Jonas?

An unnamed actress is getting some very nasty treatment in "Better than Revenge," notes the Washington Post. Is it Camilla? Only Taylor knows that for sure. The lyrics are ugly and speak of a deep anger.

The song starts with "Now go stand in the corner and think about what you did." It moves on to say:

"She's an actress, Whoa

She's better known for the things she does

on the mattress, Whoa."

Taylor Swift: Dissing the Dating Competition?

Ouch, is Taylor implying that another girl is slutty? That just isn't nice, and just because someone was interacting with a man you may have yearned for does not mean it is okay to imply she is being wild on the mattress. That's just so high school.

Should New Men be Wary?

Does it take a brave man to date Taylor Swift now? After all she's released a lot of songs about men who have done her wrong. One wrong move and the new guy could find his mistake smeared all over her next song's lyrics.

Taylor confided in MTV that she is aware that men evaluate what the future will hold if they date her. Taylor stated "I think they are starting to realize that if they are involved with me in any way, I will probably write a song about them...If they don't want me to write bad songs about them, they shouldn't do bad things."

And what bad things is Taylor referring to? So much public lamenting of love gone bad may get old soon for Taylor. Will she be embarrassed later by all the public innuendoes about men she loved and lost?

Taylor Swift is very young for the huge amount of success she has had. Eventually as she gains maturity her lyrics will gain depth. For now, she is using songs as weapons and that is a bit unsettling.

I don't think she's implying that "the actress" is slutty as much as irrelevant.

I sure as heck know that if I was a brilliant, famous songwriter and I felt another girl had stolen what was mine I would write a song about it! And I agree with the person that said other songs talk about much worse things. And it isn't like this is the first song ever to talk about revenge. Also, I don't care who you are, if someone did something like steal the guy you loved, revenge would definitely pop into your head along with anger and jealousy. Taylor releases her feelings though song so those very human, very common emotions get written down and they turn into a great song that many others can relate to. Taylor is a very real girl and she isn't going to try to pretend to be perfect because no one is! So she released a song that has anger aimed at someone with revenge on her mind? WHO CARES? She didn't mention the name of anyone! She was very nice about it. And I bet if you wrote a fabulous, catchy song that could easily become a hit you wouldn't stop and t

I'm not going to pick sides or be mean to Camilla or Taylor, it's just that this song is very out of place, especially since she also has the song "Mean" on her album.

All I can say is, at least Taylor Swift shows that she's a human being, just like everybody else who gets hurt, jealous, angry, just like EVERY human being in this whole wide world... The only thing is that she expresses her feelings through songs and that's not a bad thing... I bet a lot of people could easily relate to the words she say in her song and that's a very good thing... And as a songwriter, I'd say when you write a song, you have to make in such a way catchy and of course you need rhyming so many these were the words she was able to come up with in order to express her feelings for the song...

We love her lyrics because they're honest and raw. As a song writer, she says the things that we think but don't say out loud often to conform to acceptable behavior associated with maturity. The moment she starts filtering her thoughts and emotions from her songs is the moment her lyrics become as dead and meaningless as most songs out there. She's loved as much as she is for a reason.

I am a huge Taylor Swift and this is really upsetting to read. Better Than Revenge seems like she is still in high school? No, I don't care how old you are and who you are you are going to lash out on the "other girl". , thanks, bye!

Wow, this really angers me how critical and judgemental you guys are of Taylor. Singers today sing about things a lot worse than wanting revenge e.i. drugs, alcohol, sex, and you're saying Taylor Swift is a "bad influence"? Excuse me, but be honest with yourselves. You have emotions too. Taylor just isn't afraid to show them. She is definitly one of the truest singers today. I'm sure you've wanted revenge once too. You don't know Camilla of if it's even about her! Unless you personally know both of them, you can't say what happened. And I watched an interview with Taylor Swift. She wrote "Better Than Revenge" and a few of her other songs on her new album a while ago. So it's not like she is still this angry about it. Also, about the Kanye West thing. Look up the song "Innocent". In no way is it a dig at Kanye. She's saying she forgives him and what he did doesn't define who he is!

Taylor has always sworn to fans that she will write about what is real to her. While other song writers make up events that occur in their lives, Taylor actually tells the story. It's not to hurt anyone, but to heal herself. I love Taylor Swift and there are SO many songs out there bashing people in much more cruel ways, so why the heck are we focusing on sweet Taylor Swift? It's not like no one else has ever said something bad about someone. I love "Better Than Revenge" because she doesn't hold back. She is respectful enough to keep the name to herself so that only the other girl knows who she is talking about. The message gets acrossed to that other girl and we all don't know the story of what actually happened so we can't say the other girl is just innocent. Like I said before, there are thousands of other songs that talk about other slutty girls but since this one is about something that actually happened in Taylor's life it's suddenly wrong? I

First, this album has been two years in the making so it's VERY likely that this song was written very soon after the breakup. Taylor's emotions were still raw. (she was still pissed) Of course, she comes off a little bitchy. If anything, it's good. It's the first time we've seen this from her and I LOVE it. I really love that she isn't as perfect as we think. She gets MAD. She gets jealous. She wants revenge. And "Ouch, is Taylor implying that another girl is slutty? That just isn't nice, and just because someone was interacting with a man you may have yearned for does not mean it is okay to imply she is being wild on the mattress. That's just so high school." You don't know the whole story. Neither do I. So I don't think you can defend either of the stars.

I like how she's a songwriter who writes about her life and experiences, however trivial they may seem to someone else. She writes for herself, and I find her to be a true singer and songwriter in that she writes her own lyrics. That is a dying art, and is what music is all about- sharing emotions. I say, keep em coming, Taylor!
