Taylor Swift SNL Bits Take on Kanye, Kate and Joe Jonas

Taylor Swift going on SNL gave Taylor Swift the chance to be known for more than singing and Kanye. The Taylor Swift SNL appearance did have plenty of both, however. Taylor Swift's SNL turn wasn't interrupted by Kanye West this time, nor did Beyonce get plugged as a better host. In fact, Taylor Swift brought her own security detail to her SNL monologue, and got to slam Joe Jonas in her SNL monologue song to boot. After that, Taylor Swift moved on to sing, crack jokes, and take down Kate Gosselin while she was at it.

Taylor Swift's SNL episode was the first new Saturday Night Live in a few weeks. Swift is already in demand for her rising career, but she reached a new plateau by accident when Kanye West interrupted her VMA victory speech.

No one would expect Kanye West to interrupt Taylor Swift on SNL this time, even though West has done a few SNL gigs - and Kenan Thompson isn't thin enough to impersonate West anyway. Swift even got started with Kanye jokes before last night, as an SNL promo this week had Bill Hader pulling a Kanye on her.

For the live show, Swift used Kanye as the closing gag to her SNL monologue song, as she put security detail on the lookout for him - though ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas got the worst of it in the song. Swift then stepped right into the infamous hairstyle of Kate Gosselin, whose appearances on The View were spoofed in SNL's latest View parody. Later on, she was the latest to fall victim to Kristen Wiig's ultra-show off Penelope.

Even Twilight got a few SNL plugs, although New Moon won't come out for another two weeks. Swift had no comments in her monologue song about dating "the werewolf from Twilight" a.k.a Taylor Lautner, and an SNL digital short parodied Twilight with Frankenstein monsters.

On the news front, FOX News's glee at the 2009 elections was spoofed in the cold opening, which included SNL's second parody of Glenn Beck. Amy Poehler returned for another Weekend Update "Really?!?" segment with Seth Myers, in which they bashed Goldman Sachs for getting the swine flu vaccine before hospitals and schools did.

The Taylor Swift SNL appearance served as a welcome return for the show. Next week, they go back to one host and one musical guest, as Mad Men's January Jones follows in Jon Hamm's hosting footsteps, with the Black Eyed Peas doing the music.
