Taylor Swift SNL "Monologue Song": What She "Doesn't Talk About" in Her Monologue is Hilarious

Joe Jonas and Kanye West Get Skewered by Taylor Swift's SNL "Monologue Song"

If you missed Taylor Swift's "Monologue Song" on Saturday Night Live last night, it is suggested you take a quick surf to YouTube to check out the video. And if you were one of those taking bets Taylor Swift would talk about the Kanye West incident, she "didn't" (but you would have won the bet anyway). Country singer and cross-over hit sensation Taylor Swift was the musical guest and host of Saturday Night Live (SNL) this week and, after what has become SNL's obligatory political sketch entry, Taylor Swift delivered her monologue. Being a musician, she sang part of it. And it is arguable that Taylor Swift's monologue song, which included swipes at Joe Jonas and Kanye West, is the funniest skit that has appeared on SNL all year.

Sometimes the trick of good comedy is telling people what you "won't" or "don't" want to talk about, which is what Taylor Swift did in her "Monologue Song (la la la)." It was all breathy and sweet-sounding but what Taylor Swift "didn't" sing or "talk" about in her "Monologue Song" said volumes.

The country crossover singer first told the audience how she liked glitter and liked to wear "sparkly" dresses, but she wasn't going to talk about that "in [her] monologue" song. She then tells us that she likes "writing songs about douchebags that cheat on me," but she wasn't going to talk about that in her monologue song. She goes on to mention the boyfriend that dumped her over the phone, and tells the audience she's not going to talk about that in her monologue, either. But she doesn't talk about it to perfection, slamming Joe Jonas (one of the Jonas Brothers) in the process. It was pure sing-songy gold.

She also tells us that she won't talk about the rumors that she is dating the "werewolf from 'Twilight'" (Taylor Lautner). She tells us she won't talk about that in her monologue, but then blows a kiss to the camera as she mouths "Taylor."

When it was announced a few weeks ago that Taylor Swift would be hosting an episode of SNL, it was only a matter of minutes before bloggers, professional television critics, and comedians were having a field day trying to guess what Taylor Swift would have to say about Kanye West and his impromptu and quite rude hijacking of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the Video Music Awards. Some even wondered if Kanye West might be invited on to reprise his now infamous role. But she wasn't going to talk about that in her monologue -- because she had security (two SNL players ran onto the stage and bracketed her, one flashing a sketch of Kanye West, complete with sunglasses, at the audience).

At the end of the "Monologue Song," Taylor Swift said matter-of-factly, "Kanye West is not here."

And that was the moment one expected Kenan Thompson to storm the stage, grab the mike from a demure Taylor Swift, and say, "I'm sorry, Taylor Swift, but Adam Sandler is the best sketch singer in the world. The best in the world." But they missed their moment...

But Taylor Swift's SNL "Monologue Song" is well worth seeing... again and again. Check out the video. Especially if you "don't" like Taylor Swift...

Okay, Adam Sandler IS the best sketch singer in the world, but this sounded very funny. Tayor Swift and Taylor Lautner? Shades of Paris Hilton and Paris Latsis!
