Taylor Swift's Debut CD

Taylor Swift's self titled debut CD straddles on that fine line between pop music and country that has become so popular these days. Although the country world has embraced her as their own, she has yet to show a truly twangy style that would remind people of the old school country roots

Just sixteen when she started to record this album, it deals with what most teenagers have on their minds, love. Both the good and the bad. She covers topics of unrequited love, heartbreak, and actually being in love. Although these topics have been covered to death, Swift adds her own twist with situations that we can all relate to and she keeps it real. What makes this CD special is Swift's uniqueness, which she added to each song as she wrote or cowrote each of the 11 tracks on this album.

It's rare to find a young singer with so much control over their voice. She has a wide range. Her voice never sounds strained as she reaches for notes on both end of the spectrum and she maintains a clear tone throughout the songs. She was clearly born to be a singer and is taking advantage of the opportunity given to her.

While most adults may be leary to buy an album based on teenage love, it actually is quite refreshing because everybody can relate to it. She sings about situations that we've all been through at one time or another and it doesn't go over the top describing it. Most of the songs are actually quite catchy.

If you find yourself saying that you're not into country music, don't be deterred from buying this album. Although you'll probably find it in the country section, the music actually masks the country elements in it well enough that you won't realize they are there. And true country fans have enough of the elements there to be happy as well.

A mixture of guitar, violin, bass, and drums make this easy to listen to. The music is simple enough to not take away from it. They provide the perfect background for Swift whose voice is strong enough to not need the music to cover up any weaknesses. The lyrics are appropriate for everyone so it's something that you can listen to with your family. You won't have to worry about finding an unedited version for the kids because it's appropriate for all ages. I'd highly recommend this album to everyone.
