TaylorMade R7 Limited Driver Review

MikeBabjak
The TaylorMade R7 series really launched the game of golf into a new era with it's Movable Weight Technology. From it's original version comes the new R7 Limited, with a new shape for increased club speed and launch angles, the R7 series still shows that after all these years, it's still one heck of a club!

The TaylorMade R7 Limited driver features a head shape similar to the R7 CGB Max driver of last year, but has a more pleasing look at address. You can defiantly see the geometry when you set the club head behind the ball, and it is designed that way for a reason.

First, with the longer head, you get a lower center of gravity which will allow the ball to launch higher and faster than ever before. Second, the head shape itself is designed to reduce drag, therefore creating more club head speed for more distance. Match those with TaylorMade's popular Inverted Cone face and a new Matrix X-Con shaft, and you get a high launching, low spinning driver that loves to find fairways! Oh, yeah, did I mention it keeps the R7's key feature of removable weights? This means you can find a position to launch the ball with any type of trajectory and flight you want!

I was a little put off by the look myself when I hit this club. I love a traditional looking club head, and am very pleased with the new R9, so be sure to read my review on that bazooka! The R7's new look, while there for a reason may not be what everyone is looking for, but it has found it's way into the bags of some PGA Tour pros as of late. Typical to the R7 series, with moving the weights, I could find just about any type of ball flight I would ever want to hit with this club. The new club head shape, while a bit different from the past, was soon forgotten when I started launching the ball noticablly higher than previous R7 drivers. This added carry with less spin will put a few more yards onto your drives for sure. The new Matrix shaft felt great in my hands, and while it felt a little long, I quickly got used to it, as it is designed to keep the larger headed drivers of today very stable through the swing.

If you are a TaylorMade fan and don't want to drop the extra $100 on the R9 just yet, or need a little more technology in your driver you are currently playing, give the TaylorMade R7 Limited a try. Just remember that once you start your round, the weights stay put!

I'll be back with more TaylorMade reviews so Stay Tuned!
