Tazo may be a domestic company, but the exotic and sometimes rare ingredients in their teas are not. They go out of their way to visit the individual tea growers to sample their ingredients to make sure they are of the highest quality before ever using them in their proprietary blends. This makes for a more expensive tea for consumers, but is also the highest quality tea available without actually visiting the different countries personally.
When it comes to the different types of teas that Tazo offers, one can find black tea, green tea, and herbal tea varieties. Black teas are rendered from tea leaves that have been fermented and dried, and the end result is various dark colors and ranges in different flavors as well, depending on how it is brewed. The difference between black and green teas is simply that the tea leaves are not allowed to ferment prior to drying. This alters the color and flavor of the tea to give an entirely different experience to the drinker. Herbal teas are a completely separate product, since they do not use tea leaves at all, but different herbs and spices, fruit matter, flowers, and other organic components. What is used to make herbal tea depends completely on what type of herbal tea is being made.
The Tazo website is really rather incredible, with a number of different activities and ways to shop for their teas. If you want to buy a tea that has certain flavor characteristics, you can select from one of 14 categories (chai, organic, decaffeinated, bold, rich, soothing, invigorating, rejuvenating, refreshing, floral, spicy, lemon/citrus, berry, fruity). Alternatively, if you are in a general category, like black teas, and you mouse over a picture of one of their teas, the flavor menu will light up depending on which flavors can be found in the specific tea. For example, if you mouse over their Tazo Chai, the words chai, organic, rich, invigorating, rejuvenating, and spicy light up on the flavor menu.
In addition to being able to buy pre-bagged teas, Tazo also offers full leaf teas by the canister and bottled iced teas as well.
If you are looking for a change when it comes to your daily tea routine, Tazo may just be what you have been looking for. The teas offered are of the highest quality and most of their blends cannot be found anywhere else.
