Tea Party Disgraces America: Taunts and Spits on Democratic Members of Congress

Julia Bodeeb
The Tea Party is a national disgrace. They are a hate group that is making a mockery of American politics. Photos of their recent convention show a mostly white crowd. The Tea Party is not a diverse group; they also do not endorse diversity.

The Tea Party has descended on Washington, DC to protest healthcare reform. They are spewing hatred and waving signs with despicable slogans and images. Some signs show Obama as Hitler and others have images of guns. The Tea Party seems very fond of guns. They seem to be making the threat that they can change America to the way they want it via violence.

The Tea Party members have dishonored Democratic members of Congress by shouting slurs at them and by spitting on one member. This is never an acceptable way to treat members of Congress.

Tea Party Spits on Member of Congress

A Tea Party member spit on Rep. Emanual Cleaver (D-Mo). This shocking behavior is abhorrent.

Rep. Cleaver is a United Methodist pastor. He deserves the respect of the American public. What he does not deserve is being spit on by a rabid far right lunatic.

Racial Slurs by Tea Party

The "N" word was hurled at Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga) by the members of the Tea Party. Racial slurs are a horrible way to treat a member of Congress. The far right has shown they are willing to try to bring back a racial divide in America.

Anti-Gay Slurs by Tea Party

Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) had the word "faggot" screamed at him. The members of the Tea Party were also using "deliberate lisp-y screams" notes the Huffington Post. The far right tries to make some people seem different to try to discredit them. This is abhorrent behavior.

Return to Hatred of 1960?

Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) talked about the hatred displayed by the Tea Party to the Huffington Post. He noted "I heard people saying things I have not heard since March 15, 1960 when I was marching to try and get off the back of the bus."

Tea Party Fear Mongering

The Tea Party has worked hard to spread fears about healthcare reform. They scream about "death panels" that will never exist. The far right is scaring Americans via teir inchoate spreading false information deliberately designed to alarm and upset elder Americans. It is horrid to start rumors about healthcare reform that upset the seniors of our nation.

Tea Party Denial

The members of the Tea Party also utilizes a lot of denial about Republican spending. They rant about how Obama's healthcare reform plan will cost America too much money. They forget about how Bush wasted $747 billion dollars on the Iraq war, which was founded on lies and cost the lives of too many American soldiers. Let me say that again; the Republicans spent $747 billion dollars on the Iraq war. This war accomplished nothing. Iraq is still in chaos and the Middle East hates Americans more than ever.

Republicans Allowing Tea Party to Make Their Party an Abomination

The Tea Party is a distraction to the important issues our country needs to resolve. Republican leaders are not doing anything to quell this rabid behavior. Sarah Palin spoke at the Tea Party convention. This officially makes her a non-contender to ever hold any national office. She represents the Tea Party nation of hate.

And if the Tea Party members are so opposed to equal opportunity to healthcare for all, why do so many of them utilize Medicare? Why don't they just rip up that Medicare card and stop collecting Social Security checks? They protest socialism, but take full advantage of the handouts from the government. The Tea Party is nonsensical in its logic.

Healthcare Reform Will Prevail

As I write this, there are 222 votes confirmed for healthcare reform. Change is in the air. Sarah Palin can stuff her comments about "How's that hopey changey thing working out?" It is working really well Sarah!

Healthcare reform will soon be the law of the land. The Tea Party efforts to bog this change down in false rhetoric and scare tactics has been futile. The Republicans remain the party of "No." They remain the party that uses lies as their main campaign tool.

Healthcare reform is upon us; it is the humane thing to do. President Obama has fought for change that will help ensure millions of Americans can now have equal opportunity to health insurance.

One man can change the world. With healthcare reform America will be more competitive in the world arena of business. Many entrepreneurs will now start new businesses, knowing that it will be far easier to handle the costs of health insurance for employees.

Change is here. Today is historic and exciting. However, yesterday, due to the disgusting antics of the Tea Party, was a sad day indeed.

Never heard of 'em, and they seem a bunch of clowns. We have racists stirring up trouble in the UK at the moment. Obama as Hitler? Have they got mental health problems?...

Everyone has a right to disagree peacefully. This country's free expression is what we are all about. Taking it to the extreme, that's another story. Cheers.

? Earlier Sunday, Michael Steele tried to distance the GOP from the fringe, saying that even in the heat of their debate, the GOP never stooped as low as the radical group outside Washington Sunday morning. Sadly for Steele, his comments came about an hour before a few GOP congressmen, on the floor of the House of Representatives, cheered on a "Nut" who invaded the rotunda shouting "Kill the Bill". This about an hour before a select few congressmen went to a balcony, of the House of Representatives, and flashed "Kill the Bill" signs to those same fringe members. Oops. Other than that, they're totally disconnected!

OUR BOY'S AT THE GOP HAVE A PROBLEM.

To David- I live in Maryland where nearly a third of state residents lacked healthcare in a recent study. Surely, you are not so uninformed that you believe almost a third of the state can't or won't work to purchase their own healthcare? People are working hard, but the wages aren't meeting the expenses and healthcare is a huge expense particularly for those who have no employer coverage and have to pay premium rates.

Being that the Tea Party knew that they were going to be on national news why wouldn't they be on there best behavior. If you want someone to side with you is spitting on them and calling them names the right way to go about it? And no one knows how health care reform is going to play out because we've never had it before, so what don't we just give it a chance. Most of the people in the Tea Party are just feeding off of what they've heard other people say and have no first hand knowledge of there own.

  • Carol Bengle Gilbert3/21/2010

The Tea Party people engaging in these atrocious behaviors are a desperate, powerless minority trying to grab press attention to make themselves look more significant than they are. Too many Americans have worked too hard and too long for the dream of equality for these folks to upend it. They're emotional holdovers from another era who haven't learned that life is dynamic, not static.
