Tea for You, Tea for Me

There are many different kinds of tea that are used therapeutically. I've been researching these different kids of tea for some time now. I'm always interested in new and natural ways to treat certain symptoms and disorders. I have a list of teas compiled and their general usages, but here are just a few of them with a short description for each.

Chamomile Tea - This kind of tea is known as one of the most effective medicinal teas. Chamomile can be used safely on a regular basis, for adults and children alike. The common uses for this tea are for stomach aches, insomnia, cramping, or even a sore throat. However, I have read that this tea can cause an allergic reaction in those who have an allergy to ragweed or other members of the daisy family. If you have these types of allergies you should avoid this tea.

Peppermint Tea - This kind of tea is well known for it's soothing properties, the menthol in the peppermint being the most important factor. Peppermint tea is good for the relief of symptoms relating to IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), flatulence and headaches. The scent of peppermint is also known to ease the symptoms of motion sickness. However, if you suffer from heartburn or acid reflux (GERD) you should avoid this tea, it could make symptoms worse.

Black Tea - Black tea is one of the most common types of tea. It contains a lower level of caffeine than found in a cup of coffee. This promotes blood flow to the brain without the racing heart. Black tea also serves as a soothing anti-inflammatory for the digestive tract.

Green Tea - Another common tea, most popular in Asian countries. Green tea is known to help prevent tooth decay, heart disease, and high blood pressure. This tea has also shown to help improve one's memory.

Ginseng Tea - Ginseng is another widely known tea. Uses for this tea include reducing tension and stress, fighting infection, and aiding with signs of fatigue. Ginseng tea is also known to give your immune system a good boost and it can also lower your cholesterol.

These are some of the most recognized types of tea. There are many many more out there that are made from different herbs, plants, flowers, etc. I should say though, as with any homeopathic remedy, you should always seek the advice of a medical professional before using these teas. Sit back, relax, and enjoy that next cup of tea.
