One website that provides all the basics of computer learning in a sequential and progressive manner is Boowa & Kwala. Boowa & Kwala is an international learning game for kids which is presented in two different languages, French or English. The website has a variety of learning levels from pre-school to kindergarten and makes using the computer fun and simple.
The website offers hundreds of pages of fun for learning and includes basics of mouse operations with their "First Clicks" pages. This is one of the best places on the internet that I have found for young children to learn all the mouse operations with the least frustration for parents. By guiding your child through each level of learning on the "First Clicks" page, you can teach your child all the mouse functions and a few keyboard functions that will start them on their way to having fun and learning on the Internet. The "First Clicks" page can be accessed by clicking on the following link: http://boowakwala.uptoten.com/kids/boowakwala-homefirstclicks.html
The "Roll Over" page is the first page the child should use. The child does not need to know how to click the mouse to use this page. They will be introduced to the mouse and its relationship with the screen and can complete the activities simply by moving the mouse. By moving the mouse and rolling it over objects, the child acquires a sense of accomplishment without having to perform the clicking operation.
Once your child understands the relationship of the mouse and the screen, you can move on to the Click and Action page. When they get the click and action accomplished, they can learn to click and color, click and play music, or click and perform other actions. The First Clicks page even teaches them how to use the keyboard arrows to manipulate games. Then you can move on to click, drag, and drop and more complicated actions.
Once your child has mastered the basic functions of website manipulation, you will be amazed at how quickly they start to surf from page to page on the Boowa & Kwala site.
