When a child enters school it is good for them to have some type of background knowledge on counting and numbers. There are many worksheets that are available for kindergarten and first grade. There are various websites that allow parents and teachers to print out worksheets that help children to read. I went on The Math Lesson website and got these free PDF links for your child to learn. Make sure that you are patient when teaching your child to read. Teach them the numbers 1-10 first and see how far they go. As soon as they finish establishing numbers start with these few work sheets and see how they do. Be creative and put jelly beans of gummy bears on the pictures so that they can have fun while they are learning.

Fun Ways to Learn Numbers:
1. Use Jelly beans to learn how to count
2. Make every day items a lesson. For instance, how many people are in our family
3. Use your hands as counting tools
4. Play games that encourage counting
5. If you do chose to buy flash cards use some type of visual numbers (cheerios, candy, etc) so that they have a visual idea. Once they have a visual idea of what numbers represent use tally marks so that they can learn how to do it at school when they are asked to do math.
6. Kids love being rewarded.
7. Encouragement can boost a child's self esteem
I hope that these tips and PDFs help you teach your child how to read! Good luck!
