Teach Your Children Well

Sandra Essary
That guy over there, I know he's no good;
I know he's not from
Our neighborhood;
He's funny, I've seen,
And I seriously think
He's not nice at all - he's probably mean.

Don't talk to him or what is even quite worse,
He'll probably put you under a curse;
I know you won't
Go near his house;
Whatever you do, don't talk to his spouse.

For children, you see I'm telling you true,
He's not like me and he's not like you;
He's different; I know that you plainly see,
He's creepy, pay attention, now listen to me...

Maybe he's black, or maybe he's gay,
I know his religion
Has nothing to say.
He's not worth a lot - I think he's quite sad,
It's ok to hate him,
I won't get mad.

Kids, don't ask why, just do as I say,
I won't tell you twice,
Don't get in his way.

    Interesting. Reflects what many parents tell their kids (sometimes without justification).

    Great poem! It had a Dr. Seuss flair. It's interesting what motivates our fears...
