Opera Diva
Spending your summer interacting with people in Europe can be a very rewarding experience. Not only will you develop your teaching skills but you will gain the opportunity to share your personality, time, enthusiasm, joy, skills, and culture as you interact with your students. When you volunteer abroad, you will also have an opportunity to gain knowledge and insight about the European culture. This can leave a lasting and positive impression on both you and the students you teach.

Step 1

Go to your local U.S. Postal Service and apply for a passport. If you are 16 or older, you must have a passport when you travel abroad. When you apply for a U.S. passport, you must submit evidence of U.S. citizenship along with Form DS-11. Passport fees vary. You will also need to present two passport photos which can often be purchased at drug stores. European countries such as Switzerland, England, your passport must be stamped with a visa three months before you apply for a work.

Step 2

Apply for a teaching position at The American School in Switzerland (TASIS). You can work as an English teacher for their summer program. Hiring takes place between January and March (see Resources).

Step 3

Teach English as a Second Language at TASIS England American School. Both teacher and teaching assistant jobs are available. There are specific requirements that must be met for each position (see resources). TASIS England American School has EFL teaching vacancies for qualified Americans to work at their summer school. The school follows an American curriculum.

Step 4

Go to the Transitions Abroad website. At this website, you can apply to teach grades ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade and even up to university level.

Step 5

Apply for summer jobs at Village Camps website. If you desire to teach children in Europe, Village Camps offer day camps that are available in the summer. Summer Jobs may be available in Austria, England, France, Switzerland, and various other European countries. You have the opportunity to teach beginners English to advanced level English. You must hold a CELTA qualification and have proven teaching experience of a minimum of one year.
