Most parents are concerned about how their children drive and want their children to be safe drivers. This is most generally not a concern for the parents of farm and ranch kids, most of which have been driving pickups and tractors for many years before they get their drivers licenses. These young men and women become good drivers because of how they learn to drive and the parents of children that live in town or in cities can mimic the way that rural children learn to drive as a way to make their children better drivers.

1) Standard Not Automatic

By teaching a young person how to drive using a stick shift, they will become a better driver for many reasons. Anyone can drive an automatic, but not all people know how to drive a standard vehicle. If a young person know how to drive with a stick they will be able to drive a wider variety of vehicles and can also have improved job opportunities because the possess this skill. Additionally, by driving a stick shift a young person will have a better understanding of how their vehicle works, will have to pay more attention with driving and will also have to anticipate more while driving.

2) No Cruise Control

People who are learning to drive need to control the speed of the vehicle using the foot feed and should never use cruise control. This is important so that they learn to regulate speed, so that they can drive without it when conditions do not permit so one to drive using cruise control and will also force the person to concentrate on driving.

3) Bad Roads

It is very important for a person that is just learning to drive on all different kinds of different road conditions, with supervision. It is important that people drive at night, on snow packed roads, black ice and wet roads when someone is with them so that they know how to drive safely on bad roads when they end up driving on these roads when the conditions are dangerous.

4) Repair

A new driver should learn how to care for and make minor repairs to their vehicle. This will make the driver safer in several ways. First, they are more likely to know if something is wrong with their vehicle and will prevent them from driving their vehicle they could be injured by something that is wrong with the vehicle. Additionally, by knowing how to complete simple road side repairs they will be safer if something goes wrong with their car because they will be able to get back on the road more quickly.
