In order to really help your child develop good eating habits, you need to ensure that you have healthy options around the house for them. Keeping things like junk food out of reach and making sure that your fridge is stocked with cheese, fruit, and even yogurt will go a long way towards helping to encourage your child to eat healthy. You have to make it not only convenient to eat healthy foods, but also delicious.
Never take a gamble on hoping that your child will select healthy foods on their own. If you are not taking an active part in helping them select good foods then you are likely to be surprised at just how much junk food your kids will try to consume. It is very important to look at all of the foods in your home to be sure you are setting a good example as well. If you are trying to tell your children that healthy foods are best, your children should be able to see you actually eating those foods as well and enjoying it.
Taking all of the junk food out of the house is not recommended though either as it will just drive your child to be likely to binge on the junk foods when you are not around to monitor them. Showing your child that it is possible to consume junk foods in moderation is very important to teaching them overall good health habits. Simply hoping that they will learn from what you say, rather than what you actually do is not a good idea and will create a lot of problems for you that you are not ready to handle.
Good eating habits are developed over time, and are not something that you can simply buy from the store, or even teach your children overnight. It is important to take a long time to properly teach your child about foods so that you can be sure they are learning the proper habits for life, instead of simply trying to listen to what you say only in your actual presence.
