Teaching Students to Create Their Own Religion - a Town Outrage

A Disappointing Homework Assignment

Last Friday, students in a 7-th grade history class were given the assignment to complete over the weekend. The assignment however was shocking! Seventh grade students were asked to create a religion, yes thats create their own religion. They were also asked to include why they like the religion they created, why people should follow this religion, and why they created the religion. This was all part of a history class surrounding the study of Revolutionaries in America.

This is by far an outrage in my opinion! Christian parents. sometimes have to place their children in the public school system because they can't afford to pay for a private school. What a slap in the face this must have been to all of those hard working families who already feel at war with the public school system for only teaching evolution in the classroom. Now add this, and I think they are overstepping Christian families rights.

This school is in a rural area. It is not a bad school, as a matter of fact Strayer has been noted for their academic achievement in students. Even the Quakertown School district has received many awards because of their high standards, and quality education. So how could an assignment like this one even be allowed hit the desks of students? Does the school not realize some people actually do make up religions, and lead hundreds into a "cult". Doesn't this schools realize that it crosses every boundary possible that a Christian would have. If the answer is yes, then how could administration allow this teacher the right to assign this homework activity?

Well I am proud to report at least one student so far has done the assignment by writing a refusal because of sincere devotion to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. This thirteen year old felt led, not by any pressure of his family, to complete the assignment by answering the questions in a form that evaded the need to create a religion. At the end of his piece he concluded that it is only his desire to see people follow Christ and go to Heaven, he will not allow himself to do anything that could possibly sway the minds of others to do anything but that.

Schools have already taken God out, we know that, but now they are asking their students to put other gods in it, the line has been crossed. If you would like to get in touch with Stayer Middle school and let them know how you feel about this assignment, please e-mail their office at lbenner@qcsd.org .
