Teak Furniture: The Mark of a Tradition

Teak is most sought after hardwood. This hardwood is used for making outdoor furniture, deck of boats and other furniture where weather resistance is a concerned. It is also used for flooring. In India it is used in making window frames and doors. Teak is widely used in vintage furniture as well.

This tropical wood unlike the other forest harvested hardwood is unique for its strength. Furniture made out of this particular tropical wood lasts generation after generation. Most harvest wood shows the sign of aging with time like sometime cracks appears on the surface or it might wrap or even split due to extreme weather condition. Teak wood can stand the beat of time. Its natural oil contents prevent it from damaging and keep the surface new and shining always. Insects like termites are also resistant to teak wood . Mature wood cost a good fortune.

Teak is a very environment friendly wood. Due to its fast growth it is no more harvested from the forest but farmed in sustainable manner to meet the supply and demand in the market. So the threat to deforestation is averted. Also the farmed wood is as strong as old wood from the forest in its strength.

It is also the most sought after hard wood because of its low maintenance. Unlike other hardwood that need proper treatment and sealant to survive the weather throughout the year. Teak only needs an annual care and protection against extreme weather conditions like the snowfall or excessive rainfall. If proper care is not taken during these times then there might be slight fading of color from its surface but its durability is intact. Its natural oils resist it from decay and insect attack and keep it safe year after year.

This process of fading of color can be averted by applying wood protector that is easily available with the people who sell teak wood. If the surface is already faded then it can be restored by using the material meant for teak wood furniture only. Its natural oils do not allow any paint or stains to stick on its surface. This can otherwise be done for other hardwoods.

The qualities of teak wood make it one of the most popular woods for making wooden outdoor furniture. Its durability, strength and ecological benefits out class all the other brands of hardwood. And its beauty lasts forever from generation to generation.
