Team America: World Police A World of Fun

A Review of Team America: World Police Uncensored and Unrated DVD

The Creators of South Park have done it again with the gut-busting Team America: World Police. The latest Trey Parker film skewers Conservatives, Liberals and Terrorists on smorgasbord of humor, romance, action and big explosions. This also shows that puppets can improve any movie made by Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay.

Team America will numb the senses with high-octane chase scenes, intense martial arts action and of course puppet sex. This is a film guaranteed to offend almost everyone, but then again its all-good fun and entertainment, and its even better with the uncensored and unrated version on DVD.

Team America is an elite fighting force of five individuals who take it upon themselves to fight for freedom and protect the world from terrorists. After losing a team member on a mission to stop terrorists in Paris, Team America recruits stage actor Gary Johnston to help them stop the Terrorists causing 9/11 times a thousand.

Little does the team know that the mastermind behind worldwide attack is none other than Kim Jong Il, the North Korean dictator, by supplying the terrorists with weapons of mass destruction. Facing turmoil from within, the team must find a way to work together and fight the Film Actors' Guild along as well as stopping Kim Jong Il from destroying the world.

Trey Parker and company cleverly make fun of Jerry Bruckheimer/ Michael Bay movies with the cheesy dialog, the cliché action sequences and the outrageous explosions. "World Police" even includes the seemingly obligatory training montage and sex scene. Nowadays it seems every action movie must have at least one sex scene. The puppet sex scene is outrageous to watch, considering that its just dolls on strings making the motions of sex.

In the unrated version on DVD, adds in a little extra kinky sequences that were not in the theatrical release, and reveals why they were cut out in the first place. One of the other funniest aspects to the movie are songs that augment the soundtrack of the film, such as the Team America signature theme, the training montage song and of course the ever patriotic "Freedom isn't Free." Team America even takes a punch at the Broadway play Rent with the musical number "Everyone has Aids."

The member's of Team America are the typical military actions heroes, such as Joe the cornbread all-American leader with a sensitive side, Chris, the foul mouth tough guy with a dark past, Lisa, the strong yet assertive no nonsense woman, and Sarah, empathetic overly caring psychic. Spotswood, the teams mentor and director represents the cliché know-it-all general who sends his team out into battle while he stays behind and coordinates their actions.

The New Recruit Gary, the actor turned world policeman is the typical newbie hero, who must learn that with "power" there is "responsibility" and must come to terms with his tragic past and beliefs in order to help save the world.

One of Trey Parker's best talents is satirizing celebrities and public figures, and with his latest work does not hesitate to pull out any stops on any of his comedic targets. In Team America, Trey Parker embellishes how useless the United Nations can be in a scene where Hans Blix, the UN weapons inspector visits Kim Jong Il's palace for any signs of WMDs. While inspecting the North Korean Dictator's palace, Mr. Blix tells Kim Jong Il that if he doesn't have full access in the buildings, then the UN will be "vewy angwy," and will right him a letter saying how "angwy" they are.

Trey Parker also makes fun at how silly Hollywood celebrities look when they speak out on major political issues, renaming the Screen Actors Guild to the Film Actors Guild. The performance of Maurice La Marche as the voice of Alec Baldwin is impeccable, and is so good that he almost sounds like the real Alec Baldwin. However, the character that steals the movie of course is none other than Kim Jong Il, the North Korean Dictator who is the mastermind behind the worldwide terrorist attack.

Trey Parker portrays the wacky Dictator as a self-centered, egotistical, narcissistic sociopath who wants to be accepted, amazingly the way he really is in real life. Kim Jong Il gets his very own musical number in his palace, singing "I'm so ronery," trying to explain how sad and isolated he is, and why he must bring world destruction because he is so "ronery". During the films ending credits, Ol' Kim gets to sing again this time lamenting about his disappointment with Alec Baldwin. From his outrageous palace to his devious plans, Kim Jong Il definitely possesses the same caliber as any typical James Bond Villain.

In the special features for the DVD, there are documentaries that give a behind the scenes look at how the film was made. Some of the documentaries look at how the models and puppets were constructed. The Models for some of the locations are well made and capture the essence of the cities and towns they emulate such as Paris and Panama City. However the best of the special features on the DVD are the deleted scenes of the movies, showcasing funny jokes and sequences that couldn't make it to the overall production of the movie.

On a scale of five stars, this film gets a rating four stars. Team America is a remarkable testament to Trey Parker's comic genius a worthy follow up to the previous Trey Parker films such as South Park and Orgazmo. Overall Team America: World Police is one of the funniest movies ever made and with the unrated version on DVD the additional extras makes it even better. This special addition is definitely a must have, especially for Trey Parker fans deserving a place next to the other Trey Parker classics.
