Team Great Britain 2008 Olympic Results

Final Medal Count and Great Britain's Medal Winners Table

Glennb
On the face of it, China's hosting of the 2008 Olympics was a success. From Team GB's perspective, there are few if any complaints. The Great British team finished in fourth place on the medals table. They haven't finished this high in over 50 years! This is a particularly promising outcome in light of the 2012 Olympics being hosted in London.

China: 51 Gold, 21 Silver, 28 Bronze - 100 Total
USA: 36 Gold, 38 Silver, 36 Bronze - 110 Total
Russia: 23 Gold, 21 Silver, 28 Bronze - 72 Total
Great Britain: 19 Gold, 13 Silver, 15 Bronze - 47 Total
Germany: 16 Gold,10 Silver, 15 Bronze - 41 Total

Team Great Britain had originally target 12 Gold medals at Beijing. However no one foresaw the extraordinary success of the cycling team under British Cycling Performance Director, Dave Brailsford. The cycling team alone accounted for 8 of the Team GB's 19 Gold medals, with Chris Hoy taking three gold, a first for a Briton since 1908.

The full list of medal winners is;
