Team Unicorn "G33K & G4M3R Girls" Shines Awareness About... Geek and Gamer Girls

So I received a press release from a Danger Maiden Productions telling me to watch a music video that a Team Unicorn created. The video is a well produced parody of Katy Perry's "California Gurls" music video rewritten to be about geek and gamer girls that is creatively titled "G33K & G4M3R Girls." Curious and always up for anything that knocks Katy Perry down a peg, I watched this parody music video.

The music video and lyrics show off the allegedly elusive geek and gamer girls present in the allegedly male dominant geek and gaming subculture while throwing around all sorts of geek and gaming references. Seth Green and Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff make an appearance in the video. And no music video whether mainstream or catering to a male geek's stimulation points is complete without a bevy of attractive women in sexy costumes-in this case comic book and video game character costumes. It is a fine tribute to the geek world and video is blurbed to be "written by geek girls, produced by geek girls and performed by geek girls." At least I can give credit to the producers for knowing its audience even if it portrays the male geek as being easily amused by hot girls and action figures.

I guess my main question I have about this music video is why the heck did they have to send me a press release about it? The only newsworthy element in the press release was that the video received 770,000 hits in five days. All that proves is that people will watch anything online as long as it features pop culture, geek subculture, and hot girls. The moment that becomes news is the day it is discovered that water is wet. What were they trying to promote with this video: That geek and gaming girls exist? Yeah, they do exist judging from the presence of people featuring XX-chromosome pairs at gaming conventions, anime conventions, and the casual geek and gaming meet ups among friends. If they wanted to highlight that geek and gamer girls can be just as attractive as any other mainstream pop culture medium then mission accomplished. Now where the heck is the music video salute to geek and gamer guys? Maybe some actual links to websites associated to the productions that sent this would help me see what else they are up to.

But any music video that manages to feature comic book icon Stan Lee is definitely worth a watch.
