As a result, opportunities for employment and advancement in the technical areas of almost every professional field are higher than ever and technical jobs are some of the fastest growing jobs in the country.

Essentially, technicians are skilled workers who provide technical support to their respective fields. For example, an engineering technician has specific knowledge and skills to provide technical support in a specific branch of engineering. A medical technician provides support to those in medical professions and so on.

Technician jobs salary ranges vary, as do most jobs, based on a variety of factors. These include the specific technician field being entered, the geographical location, and the experience, education and skills of the technician. Generally speaking, however, a technician in any field can expect to earn anywhere from about $40,000 to $65,000 a year.

The healthcare and computer networking fields are generally considered to be the most lucrative for technicians. According to payscal.com a computer network technician can be expected to earn between $30,000 and $90,000 a year with an average salary of $50,000. The salary range for medical technicians is very similar with more technical intensive positions receiving more pay than others.

For example an ultrasound technician will earn between $53,000 and $60,000 per year while a chief CAT scan technician may earn as much as $75,000 a year. One of the fastest growing technician positions is that of the radiology, or x-ray, technician. Radiology technicians can expect to earn anywhere from about $45,000 - $73,000 and the demand for these types of technicians is not only currently high, but is expected to rise even more in the coming years.

Most technician positions require training at a trade or vocational school and special certification. For example to become a Pharmacy technician you have to attend a course specifically designed to train pharmaceutical technicians and then pass a certification test. To find out more about technician positions visit a local job agency or look for schools in your area that over technical training programs and speak to an education counselor at one of those institutions.
