Childbirth is an exciting and scary time for both the husband and the wife as they are expecting the delivery of their baby. Who knows what could happen when the time comes? At the same time, it is an experience that can become quite difficult for the mother as several changes happens with her body in her pregnant state. Pain is the main sensation that the mother has to go through and it is because of this, that techniques for child birth have been developed to help her in any way possible. The following is a discussion of the different techniques for child birth that have been developed to help both husband and wife go through the special time in their lives.
Lamaze Method
The Lamaze method has been around since the 1940's, having been developed by Dr. Fernand Lamaze. The main goal of this method is to boost the mother's confidence with her ability in giving birth. Classes are given to teach the expecting mother a number of different ways to go through the labor process and to equip her with techniques to reduce the pain that comes with childbirth. It also aims to promote normal birth and the first few moments after that. Techniques include the following: movement, positions, aromatherapy, hot and cold packs, breathing techniques, and the use of a yoga or exercise ball, just to name a few.
The Alexander Technique
This technique was developed by F.M. Alexander and involves methods that deal more on the body's movements. He came up with his method after losing his voice while performing, and finding no relief from other medical interventions, and he made his own. This technique is actually for everyone, and not entirely limited to pregnant women. The technique entails proper breathing techniques, proper movement in standing, sitting as well as moving with safety. As the mother goes through childbirth, she will know how to breathe properly to help calm her body and concentrate on the process to help open her cervix and be prepared for successful pushing as the baby comes out.
The Bradley Method
This method, developed by Dr. Robert Bradley in the late 1940's, is more of a natural approach with emphasis on proper nutrition as well prenatal exercises. Otherwise known as the Husband-Coached method, it is thought that the mother has a more positive outlook when their husbands are involved with the childbirth process.
