Techniques to Stay Cooler at Night and Get Better Rest

Lance Esondi
One big problem for people as they start to age is that the condition of night sweating becomes a norm. This is where your body gets so warm that you can literally sweat and have it interrupt your sleep. Once you wake up hot and sweaty, it's very hard to get comfortable again and fall back asleep like you would like to happen. There are things that you can do about this so that you can get better rest again and stay cool.

Get a different pillow. Pillows need to be able to breath well so that the heat from your head can escape from the fabrics. There are certain materials that are made to breath better than others. A buckwheat pillow for example does a better job at this than a synthetic or cotton pillow.

Get into the habit of drinking water like you should. A dehydrated body can't regulate temperature as well as one that is properly hydrated. Get enough water into your system and you might notice that you will feel a bit cooler again.

Never cover up your head or your feet if you constantly have this problem. These two parts of the body are where most of the heat escapes. If covered, you will be warmer.

Lower your overall body mass to have less heat problems. If you are severely overweight or even obese, this tends to warm you up much more than you would if you were at a proper weight. Work on your diet and exercise to reduce your mass so that you can be cooler again.

Stay off the bed until you actually go to bed. The reason is that the mattress will gradually heat up and retain more body heat as the night goes on. The less contact you have with the bed before sleeping, the less heat will be trapped inside to warm you up later.
