Technology Being Used to Copy Whale Fins & Create More Agile Planes

Structure of the Whale Fin Can Create a More Agile Wing

Scientists have grown tired of the current aerodynamic designs that we see on airplanes, submarines, and wind turbines. They have been studying different ways in which to create a better way to create a product that used the concept of a whale flipper. It has been discovered that the whale's flippers provide the ability to move in different angles. This resulted in the creation of tubercle technology, something that is going to change the look of airplanes and other devices for a long time.

The leading edges of turbine and fan blades have been designed to be smooth and streamlined. Scientists felt that this was the only way to create a solid blade/fin/wing. However, a group of scientists at Whale Power knew better and understood that they could use the design of a whale flipper to create something more powerful. This is because the bumps along the edge of their flippers assists in increasing a whale's dynamic efficiency. They are then able to move more agile. Scientists are incorporating this same idea into other technology.

It is a well known belief that this type of fan design will lead to more environmentally friendly airplanes and fans being created. Studies have shown that this unique design enables fans to use 20% less electricity than fans with a conventional design. The fans also experience less violent vibrations that help prolong the fans life. You can save money through electric bill savings and the fact that you do not have to purchase a new fan every year.

The technology incorporated in airplanes and submarines could create vehicles that have better agility than any other model ever created. Turns and spins would be able to be made that were thought to be impossible. Imagine having the flexibility that a whale has behind the wheel of an airplane. I bet that would make for some unique fighting planes and show airplanes. This technology could also lead to new inventions being created as well over time.

Whale Power appears to be on to something. The part that shocks me the most is that it took this long for someone to be able to think of using this concept with actual technology. This could do wonders for the world of aviation and underwater exploration. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the world embraces the concept over the next year or so.
