Technology in the Classroom

Teachers Just Dont Have the Time or Know How?

I've heard one to many teachers say that Technology in the classroom slows them down, and or that they just do not have the time to learn it for themselves in order to implement it into the classroom.

In my personal opinion, I think its just fear; fear of failing at teaching, fear of not knowing themselves, and their students being aware of this.

In fact these are excellent opportunities to building teaching opportunities and relationships.

Teaching is not simply about passing tests, and state wide exams and the sooner that schools acknowledge this, and stop placing this expectation on teachers, the sooner they can go back to teaching.

Many have suggested to me that I would make a great teacher, and that I should go and get my credentials. I honestly considered it, and it runs through my mind from time to time, but only because it will give me a receipt that shows that I know what I'm talking about.

There are many great teaching methodologies that one learns when going to school to become a teacher, but I also hear teachers say that there is not way they can implement most of those ideas due to the fact that there are so many students in the class, and the objective in which the school places upon teachers, is to teach the students the content in which they need to know in order to pass a test, instead of real life learning goals, such as time management, project management, stress management, study skills, communication, research, problem solving, critical thinking, and more.

Who cares if some one has a great memory enough to retain bits of information for about a week, that they can regurgitate, or check the correct box on a test, and forget it by the following week, without having gained any benefit, or idea of how to use the information in the real world?

True teaching looks like helping one obtain goals that will provide them with success in their own personal objectives in life, not those determined by others.
