Technology Review: the Apple Wireless Keyboard

Denise Nuttall
The best Apple computer accessory I have come across in a long time is the Apple Wireless Keyboard. I had the previous wireless keyboard and it was not portable like this one.

The keyboard is ultra thin and is completely wireless. The Bluetooth wireless technology lets me be farther away from my computer desk and still use the keyboard. The keyboard is capable of being used up to 30 feet away.

This compact Apple wireless keyboard is nice to have when I am traveling with my laptop when usually I am working in a crowded space. I can set the keyboard right on my lap. Plus the keyboard's small design helps it to fit right into my computer bag and it is very light weight.

This keyboard does not have the numbered keypad of to the side, but I rarely used mine anyway. I usually use the numbers above the QWERTY. If it had the numbers pad at the side than it would not be as portable nor fit in my laptop bag. It does have one-touch controls for multimedia, screen brightness, Expose and Dashboard. The keys on the keyboard are low profile which allows me to type faster. My fingers seem to glide across the keys.

It only takes 3 AA batteries to operate the wireless keyboard. These are supposed to last up to a year under normal use. The keyboard will power down if not in use which save on the life of the batteries. When you start to use the keyboard it powers up right away without you turning it back on. If you are not going to be using it for a while or are traveling with it, it does have an on and off switch.

The only part of the Apple Wireless Keyboard that I do not like is that it does not have a trackpad on the keyboard. I had to have a wireless mouse added with the keyboard to be able to use it when I am not at a desk. It is a little awkward, but nothing that I can not live without. Perhaps on their next model they will consider installing a trackpad if enough people bring it up.

This is one Apple computer accessory that I would definitely give thumbs up and a high five on. Mac users are going to love it. Although I have only had this Apple wireless keyboard for just a short while, I expect that it will last for a long time.

if your working in a crowded space why not simply set the laptop on your lap?
