When you first create a basic SharePoint 2007 website the home page usually has a single tab at the top of the page labeled, Home. My users love this tab and want several others just like it to navigate to other pages that they have created within SharePoint 2007. They just don't realize how easy it is to create these tabs since they are new to SharePoint 2007. It can be easily overlooked if you don't know where to look.
To add a new Tab to the top of your SharePoint 2007 Website just follow these steps:
1. Open your SharePoint 2007 website
2. Click on Login (if you aren't logged in already by default)
3. Click on Site Actions (will only appear if you have admin rights to this SharePoint 2007 website)
4. Click Site Settings
5. Click Top Link Bar (Under Look and Feel Section)
6. Click New Link Button
7. Enter Web address (URL for site)
8. Enter Description (This will be what displays as the label of the new Tab)
9. Click OK
Once you click OK it should process the request pretty quickly and once it refreshes the page you should see your new Tab at the top of the page. The name of the Tab will be what you entered as the description so make sure it makes sense to your users. I simply made a link to Google for mine, I entered the URL as http://www.google.com and the description as Google. When my users click that Tab it will take them to Google, If you link to a portion of your SharePoint 2007 website just make sure the link is right and it should stay within the page. That is the most common use of these Tabs for my users, just Tabs to get to other portions of the SharePoint 2007 website.
Well I hope this guide helps you to add a new Link Bar Tab at the top of your SharePoint 2007 website.
