First we will add some links to the Quick Launch Bar to do this follow these steps:
1. Open your SharePoint 2007 website
2. Click on Login (if you aren't logged in already by default)
3. Click on Site Actions (will only appear if you have admin rights to this SharePoint 2007 website)
4. Click Site Settings
5. Click Quick Launch Link (Under Look and Feel Section)
6. Click New Link Button
7. Enter Web address (URL for site)
8. Enter Description (This will be what displays as the label of the new Tab)
9. Click Heading drop down (choose heading you want it to fall under, I only have one Central admin)
10. Click OK
Repeat above steps as needed (I put in 3 new Links)
I added 3 websites to my Quick Launch Bar; I added Google, Yahoo, and Bing. This should be enough for us to complete the other two tutorials in this article. Now that you have some links we might want to order them in order of importance or most commonly clicked, or some other method. To do this follow these steps:
6. Click Change Order Link
7. Choose each drop down and put the number you want it to be placed on the page in each drop down(I put Google(1) Bing(2) and Yahoo(3))
8. Click OK
Now when you go back to your home page you will see that the links are now in the order you placed them. If you have multiple headings you can also change their order as well in the same manner. It's a pretty simple process, you can really help your users by placing important links at the top of the page so they don't have to search as much for what they want to click.
Now finally if we have a link that isn't being used or just needs to be removed for some other reason, to remove the links follow these steps:
6. Click Icon next to Link you want to delete
7. Click Delete Button
8. Click OK to warning message (make sure you are ok with the message)
That is all there is to it, SharePoint should delete the link permanently from your Quick Launch Bar and reorder the remaining links accordingly. So now you know how to edit your Quick Launch Bar and make it more useful.
I hope you found this guide helpful with editing your Quick Launch Bar.
