Ted, the Fish, and the Wish

James R. Ford
Ted walked along along the water's edge, the river and its currents hypnotizing his mind. In a daydream, he thought of a steamboat. He had once worked on a paddlewheel boat, cruising the river as a tourist attraction. In his dream, however, he was catching fish off the boat with his brother Ed, his cousin Ned, and his mother, Edith. The fish were large, and he even caught a bag full of bait fish somehow. When he released the bait fish into the river, he could swear that one of the fish looked back at him. Ted remembered this dream when he woke up, and stored it into his memory.

A year or so later, here he was walking along the same banks of the river, which looked all so familiar. He set down his tackle box and opened it, taking out a lure with red feathers and a spoon. He cast out his line, then waved to a passing boat loaded with bikini clad women. "Hello!" he shouted out, and was met with friendly waves from the young women, and even one of them flashed her breasts at him. The name of the passing boat was Easy Love Affair. Ted imagined to work on the boat.

He was the captain of the boat, and captains can tell their passengers to do anything, and they have to do it. Ted loved to be captain. He enjoyed this daydream until something hit on his line. He set the hook, and started to reel in his catch. It was a small fight, and soon he could see that his catch was a keeper. As he examined the fish, and removed the hook, the fish began to talk.

"If you release me, I'll grant you three wishes", said the talking fish.
"Sure thing, buddy", said Ted as if he had just gotten up from bed. Ted set the fish back into the water and it quickly swam away. O.K., thought Ted, "I wish I were the captain of the boat that just went past", he said aloud.
Ted was now the captain of the Easy Love Affair. Ted decided to leave the wheel and head downstairs to meet the ladies. The gal who had flashed him was the first to speak. And speak she did. This gal didn't know when to shut up.
"I wish she would shut up!" said Ted. And she did. She didn't say another word.

Ted mingled amongst the pretty gals, meeting each one of them and taking lots of photographs. His three favorite gals were Tiffany, Bethany, and Gettinany. He imagined himself in a hot tub with all three girls.
"I wish I was wet!", said Ted. And he was.
Ted found himself in the river after he fell off the boat, since no one was at the wheel.
He swam to shore and on the way, was met by the fish who gave him a wish.
"Watch what you wish for!", said the fish, "Wishes can sometimes come true".
