Although, Dr. Phil had arranged for Williams to leave the show, board a flight and go straight to the facility in Texas, Williams had other plans. The guy with the golden voice who went from living on the streets to sleeping in hotels, appeared nervous and frightened to death about getting help with his addictions to alcohol and drugs.
After doing a voice-over for Kraft macaroni and cheese, something happened that opened a floodgate of concerns about Ted's sobriety. A slight altercation, between Ted Williams and one of his daughters led to Williams being detained by police, but not for long.
However, the incident went public and media headlines were flooded. A seedy past was now threatening to destroy all the possible opportunities for Williams, but help was on the way, Williams and several of his children were invited to appear on the Dr. Phil show.
While speaking with Williams, Dr. Phil seemed a bit agitated when his generous offer to help was not immediately accepted. Phil probed, and Williams insisted that he would go into rehab, but he wanted to return to Ohio to see his grandchildren and girlfriend first. "I'll fly her to you." Dr. Phil added.
Ted Williams was persistent, he wanted to go to Ohio for a few days first. He explained that he felt pressured, and one could see it in his eyes. Finally, Williams asked Dr. Phil if the offer would still be good if he went to Ohio first. A reluctant Dr. Phil finally agreed. Williams certainly appeared to be good at bargaining, he stuck to his grounds and eventually set the terms of the offer.
Dr. Phil agreed, but to take back some control Phil added a condition, he wanted a member of the rehab center to fly to Ohio with Williams. The deal was done, Ted Williams would fly back to Ohio, spend a couple of days with his grandchildren and girlfriend before flying to Texas and checking into rehab.
A lot has happened in a short time, Ted Williams has went from standing on the streets holding a cardboard sign and begging to being offered voice-over deals with major companies.
Williams admitted, that he had not been one hundred percent honest about when he had his last drink. A big step for someone with an addiction, Williams added that his drug of choice had been crack cocaine, so it is completely understandable that a complete change in his life was frightening. One would have to wonder if Williams didn't seem over-whelmed by it all.
Many people are wishing all the best for Ted Williams. Will he keep his word and take advantage of the opportunity to get help with his addictions? His story can be one with a very happy ending if he does. Williams has checked into a very costly rehab facility in Texas, and security is tight. Who is paying for his treatment? That is unknown according to reports it's an anonymous benefactor, and not Dr. Phil
