Ted Williams Going to Rehab: Will He Get the Help He Needs?

Darren Heath
The "Golden Voice" Ted Williams, overnight internet sensation with the classic radio voice, has decided to check himself into rehab for his alcohol and drug issues. He appeared on Dr. Phil and acknowledged that his struggle against drug and alcohol is ongoing and therefore he will seek help to confront his condition. Williams created a national stir, appearing on youtube and television when a Columbus, Ohio radio station captured him on video demonstrating his vocal talent. Since that point in time he has been all over the national media appearing on radio and television.

However, Mr. Williams has a checkered past. He was estranged from his mother for 10 years and this past week was detained by security after a loud verbal altercation with his daughter over money. Now he has made a decision to enter rehab. Despite these obvious issues, the Cavs have not rescinded their offer to Williams.

According to reports, the altercation occurred in a Los Angeles hotel. For certain, a major concern for Mr. Williams will be how to deal with the numerous hangerson who will come out of the woodwork to take advantage of him now that he has garnered all this attention and the offers have begun to pour in. Mr. Williams has enough to deal with battling his addictions and cash now being thrown his way. Throw family problems into the mix and it is a potential recipe for disaster.

Perhaps what Mr. Williams needs is a mentor, a guardian angel of sorts to keep an eye on him as he works through these issues. One of the supposed offers that Williams received was from NFL Films. Maybe he needs to look for his answer within the NFL paradigm. In 2009 Michael Vick was released from prison and received guidance and counsel from Tony Dungy, the Super Bowl winning coach and all around stand up guy. For those who truly care and who have a vested interest in Williams' success and well-being as a person, perhaps they could help him find a Dungy-like figure to keep him from falling of the wagon. The temptations are going to be huge for this man, especially given his past and myriad family issues. Ted Williams failure to be a success will be more of an indictment of our society and our interest in riding the coattails of the latest cash cow, rather than being any sort of indictment of a man who most likely needs a lot of help beyond a house and some money.

I firmly agree with the above article and feel that Mr. Williams daughter holds animosity towards him thats so strong she lied on him. I don't believe for a moment this man was drinking a 5th of Vodka a day. She's angry that he was a dissapointment to her, and is now a potential success.
