Ted Williams Let Us Down

Abby Greenhill
When Ted Williams burst into the media just a few short weeks ago, we all thought he was truly going to change his life around for the better. He was offered jobs and even a home, but little did we realize then that he had been lying to himself and to the world, and still continues to lie. Ted Williams is a drug addict and an alcoholic. Can people like Ted change? The short answer is, yes they can. The longer answer is, they can change only if they truly want to change. Ted Williams let us down.

The name Ted Williams has been thrown around with the word 'hero' attached to it. This man is not a hero, he is a drug addict who lies and cheats his way through life. He doesn't have the willpower to stick it out with rehab and turn himself around.

He was offered a fantastic opportunity, rehab at an outstanding clinic, all paid for. This is not an opportunity the average Joe on the street gets. Rehab is expensive and the good ones are hard to find and hard to pay for. When he was offered the opportunity to go to Origins Recovery Center , he hesitated. He told Dr. Phil that he wanted to go back to Ohio to visit his grandchildren. The only thing he visited in Ohio was a bottle of booze. He did finally check into the rehab on January 13, 2011 and it only lasted two weeks,

This man is not a hero by any stretch. He is a man, a man who lives on the streets and lies and cheats to make it day to day. Even if he had made it through rehab, would the change have lasted? We won't know the answer to that, as he ran and turned tail. He ran from the help he needed to become a human being again, a productive member of society. What company would offer him a job now?

He pulled the wool over our eyes for a short period of time. He is an actor; he says what he thinks we all want to hear. Now he blew his opportunity, his chance at a real life. Whether his family sticks by him or not is their business. If Ted Williams returns to life on the streets, that's his business.

You drew us all in with your big talk and promises. Now you are going right back to your old ways and your old life. Ted Williams, you let us down, but even worse, you let yourself down and you have to live with that.

Disappointing, to say the least. Have to be careful about airing dirty laundry on Dr. Phil, or anywhere else. Good write-up.

I am not at all surprised. I knew this would happen.

All I have to say is it is a shame. We all knew this man was not prepared to assimilate back into society as a productive citizen. We took him too quickly just so we could document his downfall every step of the way. He was better off on the streets doing what he was doing rather than letting people take advantage of him by making him the story of the day.

This is so sad. I prayed he'd make it.

You cannot force anyone to change and even if Ted was offerred all the glitter and glam that he could enjoy and endure he still would not have made it to the top because he wasn't asking for help he was asking for money to buy drugs and booze on the corner.

    You tell him Abby!

I wish him the best and certainly hope he can turn his life around =0)

I think he was thrust into the spotlight and television with Dr. Phil way too soon. His counseling should be private.
