TEDDY BEAR

Cindi Starr
Worn, weary, and ragged
One ear hanging by a few threads,
He stares at me with his remaining black eye,
His balding head limp and dangling.

He'd once been so treasured,
I'd tote him with me everywhere.
He now sits in a dusty box,
Just waiting for me to care.

As I look at him today,
My eyes brim with tears,
For a childhood long gone,
For far to many years.

Yes, I spelled "shear" wrong; should have been "sheer"

This poem is interesting because teddy bears are that ultimate symbol for security for kids and adults; hugging one, decorating a bedroom with teddy bears, and they're the official mascot of Bank of the West. At the same time...anyone want to encounter a real bear in the woods ?? Isn't it amazing how one animal could both symbolize comfort and security, yet at the same time, bring out shear terror in even the boldest person ?

My girls each had a favorite bear when they were little, Cindy and Soft Bear. I still have them, and they each sit on their own little rocking chair in the guest room. It makes me happy and a little sad when I see them there because their childhoods even though so sweet seem so long ago.

:) NICE! I have at least 75 teddy bears of all shapes sizes and descriptions!!! My 'favorite' is still my first tattered beat up 'Smokey bear'......

What is more comforting than our precious "battlescarred" teddy bears. Great tribute to all our fuzzy little friends.

OK - this is too cool. My brother is 54 years old, and his "girlfriend" from California sent him a giant super soft Teddy Bear when our Mother died two years ago. OMG - I was so jealous; I really wanted it for myself. He loves it but would never admit it. I loved your great thoughts on Teddy Bears.
