Ted's Montana Grill Offers Up Some Great Fresh Burgers, Sandwiches and Steaks
A Steakhouse with an Environmental Consciousness
Experiences
Having been open for a while, I've had a chance to eat at Ted's several times, both in the restaurant and from their take-out menu (which is their entire menu). It turns out that my favorite meal there has to be their burgers. What I find strange is that at most restaurants, I'm not a big burger fan, but here, I really like their burgers. There are a ton of different options with the burgers and they all come with fries and are generally somewhere around $9 to $10 each. The chicken grill sandwiches are also very good. Mind you, it's not just your standard grill chicken either. There is a whole section of the menu devoted to chicken sandwiches and the choices make it hard to figure out just what you want to order!
I'm a fan of the chili cheese fries appetizer that's made with bison chili. On all of our visits when we get them, the plate of fries and chilly is just about gone soon after it reaches the table.
Finally I've also had a few of their steaks, which are also very good. The Kansas City Strip is very tasty and the prime rib is good too. The Kansas City Strip is marinated with lemon butter, which gives it a really unique and very good taste.
What else is there?
Feeling adventurous or just like bison? One of the nifty things about the burger menu is that they are available with either beef or ground bison. It's not only the burger menu though, with the majority of the steaks, you also have a choice of either beef or bison.
Beyond that, Ted's has a menu that generally follows the outline of most other restaurants. You have your soups and salads, appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and entrees. Ted's also has their daily "Blue Plate Classics" which change each day and include favorites like roast turkey, crab cakes, and chicken fried chicken. Entrees include things like pot roast, meatloaf, and salmon along with a few other seafood and chicken dishes.
Generally though I'd say most people come for the steaks or for the burgers. I know that's what I think of when I think of Ted's Montana Grill.
Price
There's one thing that keeps me from eating more often at Ted's and I guess in a way, I understand why. Ted's prices are higher than at comparable restaurants in the area. Now it's not a ton, but there is a premium, especially if you go for the entrees and/or the steaks.
Why do I get the price difference? I think that Ted's is a different kind of steakhouse. All of their food is shipped in fresh so there are always deliveries. Not only that, but everything is prepared fresh, so you have the extra preparation work and staffing. Additionally, their focus on the environment also adds costs as they are using recycled goods and don't use plastic which probably add to their costs.
I'm willing to pay the premium from time to time, it's just that I can't go as often as I would like.
Beyond the menu
I've honestly never had a bad service experience at Ted's, whether it's sitting down and eating or ordering through their take-out service. It seems that everyone there works as a team and they make sure everyone in the restaurant has what they need and are enjoying their meals.
I like the décor of the restaurant. It's not overdone and you have a simple dining room that's decorated with darker natural woods. There are simple tables and chairs (along with booths). The area is open and lit well. It does get noisy during busier periods, but it is still fairly easy to carry on a conversation at your table.
In the end...
I've found that I really like to eat at Ted's Montana Grill and I like the fact that it's the kind of restaurant that values things that I also value. That includes fresh, well made food and a sustainable outlook on our environment.
So overall even though I have to pay a bit more Ted's Montana Grill, I really like to eat there.
