Teen Drug Slang: Blueberries, French Fries and Eggs Are Not Healthy Anymore

If parents believe teens abusing prescription drugs are going to run around the house talking about taking Xanax or Temazepam, they are sadly mistaken. Teens talk, text, update, tweet and email about experiences with prescription drugs and parents are none the wiser. Why? Because the slangs used by teens when talking about prescription drug abuse seem ever so safe.

What Slang Drug Terms for Drug Abuse do Teens Use?

Blueberries - Adderall, commonly prescribed for attention deficit disorder. Taken by teens for increased energy and decreased appetite. Especially popular among teen girls abusing prescription medications to lose weight. Blueberry can also be used as slang for marijuana with a blue tint.

French Fries - Xanax, commonly prescribed for anxiety. This small pill is easy to hide and can be taken in pill form or crushed and added to water with no evidence. Teens abusing prescription medications may also snort Xanax or water it down and shoot up with a hypodermic needle.

Eggs - Temazepam is often prescribed for insomnia. This drug is a benzodiazepine derivative that causes hypnotic effects. The drug used to be available in gel form which was melted and injected causing as a means of abusing prescription medications. This caused gangrene and clogged arteries in several cases.

Tic Tacs - Ambien, sold as one of the most popular sleep aids, is another prescription drug abused by teens with a food related slang name. Typically tic tacs refers to the five to 10 mg Ambien.

Butter Sandwich - Commonly used in the Philadelphia area, butter sandwiches is a slang drug term teens used for illegal cocaine. Other common food slangs for cocaine include Cola, Chinese Sky Candy, Hamburger and Pepsi.

Cornbread - A slang drug term for crack cocaine. With a little time and a few ingredients, cocaine can be turned into crack cocaine. Crack tends to be much more addictive than cocaine and is smoked, in most cases, rather than sniffed.

Skittles - Dextromethorphan is an ingredient in over the counter cold medications often packaged as a small red tablet. Teens use the slang drug term skittles to refer to these cold medications.

Candies, Egg Rolls, Scooby Snacks and Smartees - These slang drug terms used by teens abusing illegal drugs refer to ecstasy. Ecstasy is known to increase libido and leave teens feeling less self conscious and more open, sexually.

Many Parents Have no Idea There is a Problem

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, cigarettes and alcohol are things of the past. Teens today are abusing prescription medications and illegal drugs at an all time high. Parents, believing in the honest nature of children, never give a second thought to their teen's phone conversation about eating Skittles and drinking Pepsi, but those common words could be a sign that drug abuse is a reality.
